New to Reloading - Advice

Keep us updated once you try this, I would imagine the steel media would last way longer.
Well, I pretty much have. Let me explain. I sent off about 80 pcs of 7mm Rem Mag and about 100 pcs of 270 Win to a fella who deprimes, deep cleans in SS media and anneals then ships back to me. I've been curious and wanting to try the service for some time and so far I'm happy with the results. I probably won't send it off every firing, but maybe every 3rd. That is until I (eventually) break down and get an annealer and do it all myself. In that case I'd anneal after every firing.

Stainless pin tumbling is a common method. I started like Muley Buck with a harbor freight rock tumbler.
Positives- makes brass sparkly clean in short order. Cleans out primer pockets better than walnut/cobb. Media is good forever.
Negatives- Strips carbon from inside of case necks. Carbon helps with consistent seating pressure and prevents cold weld between bullet and brass if ammo sits for a while. Can cause some peening in case mouths/necks that results in inconsistent seating pressure. Can be a PITA to dry the brass out.

Regardless, I made a lot of really accurate ammo with brass stainless tumbled before and after sizing. I’m back to vibrating with cobb now.

What made you decide to stop using the steel? Just the elimination of carbon and drying the brass?
