Getting out on my first spring turkey season here in the Rockies this year. I have a Beretta sporting clays 12 gauge with a 30” barrel so I went searching for a deal today on something shorter, otherwise I was just planning to take my bow only.

Came up with this whole setup for $300 on consignment. Should do great for my first time out for turkey. Remington 870 12ga., 3”, 25” barrel, rib clamp fiber optic sights, Remington mod choke, jelly Belly maximum turkey choke (any opinions on this one?) choke wrench and a box of target ammo.

Haven't heard of that choke but I'm not a choke snob. Only way to see is to pattern it. My 870 has an excellent pattern with the cabelas brand black max. I think you'll like the gun. Can't go wrong with a 870.

I have been shooting a mossburg 500 ultimate for many years now. It came with three chokes, one of which is an extra full turkey. I picked up an Undertaker choke way back when. I have taken many turkey out to 55 yards. I still have about a dozen Remington 4x6 duplex 3.5 mag shells. I know all old school, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. I never shot at a turkey that didn't end up on the diner table

You got yourself a fine turkey killing setup right there. All you really need to do is get some shells and pattern the gun and you're ready to go. Jelly head is a good choke. If you want another option I really like the one kicks makes (gobblin thunder). As far as shells, I for the price its hard to beat the Winchester longbeard XR 3 inch #6 but the 4s and 5s are good too

I can't remember the number of turkeys I've killed with the same set up, just a different choke. Can't remember what brand the choke is, but with Winchester Long Beard XR it is a killer. I wrapped it and added a red dot reflex sight. The red dot was a game changer.

Thanks all. Should be a fun year. Yep Jelly Head, picture didn’t attach the first time. Red dot will be the next upgrade down the line.

Got 4 boxes of Longbeard XR #5 in 3” headed my way to test some patterns!

You got everything you need to fill some tags then! I just put a red dot on my turkey catcher and used a meadow creek mount that goes on the rib. Not sure if your receiver is tapped but if not that's a good cheap option and I think I may like it better than a receiver mounted red dot

Great find—I have just about the same setup. Honestly no need for a red dot with those sights. I was going to suggest some Long Beards…
