Recently traded a Remington 700 7mm rem mag for this beautiful Browning A bolt medallion in 270. I have a history with the A bolt medallion, as it was the first rifle i killed a big game animal with. Came with 7 boxes of ammo so it was definitely hard to pass up. Thoughts and comments on the Browning A bolt? Need some scope ideas for this ole girl.

First rifle I purchased in my own name in about ‘94 I believe and it’s killed a number of cow elk and deer. I have a simple Nikon 3-9 with bdc and she shoots where I point. You’re gonna be happy with that one. Don’t carry mine much anymore but need to change that seeing this thread.

My first rifle was a Browning A-Bolt Medallion in 25-06. Prior to buying it I was borrowing a friends Savage Model 99 in .243, which I shot my first deer with. I wish I still had it. I wish I had a 99 in .243, too.

Fixed 4x Leupold would be probably the only exception to my "no Leupold Scopes" rule and would be perfect on a pretty .270 Browning.

Old school Leupold STD style base with Millett engraved rings is the only legit mounting option. They look so bad ass that I bought a case of those rings. Hopefully I get to use them all before I kick off.

Very nice. My 7mag Abolt II Medallion with Boss I got as a gift from my father back in 1994 and is still the queen of my safe. My stock does show some minor battle wounds. Little scratch here, tiny nick there. Still looks fantastic though. Where did you happen to find a new stock? Also, the gloss scope looks great for that era of rifle. Mine had a gloss Nikon 4-12x50AO (pre monarch) which at the time was their top tier.

My Dad has several ABolts..7 Mag, 7 WSM, 30-06 and 243 I believe. All are shooters. I'm still kicking myself for not buying one in 25 WSSM several yrs ago but couldn't really afford it. If I happen to see one now with a BOSS it's almost guaranteed to be coming home with me. That thing just works really well.

Hope you enjoy it!

Great rifles, I have or have had several. All were/are great shooters, and beautiful to boot. A classic beautiful gun needs a classic scope, Leopold all the way.

Stainless Abolt .270 was my first rifle and is what I used from 2007 to about 2 years ago. Killed a pile of deer with it. The action is smooth, low bolt lift, good mag, very accurate barrel. Safety location and operation is perfect/ideal. I have had a few issues though. The stock isn't very sturdy and needed to be opened up big time to free-float the barrel. The barrel walks when heated. The trigger sear broke in half while firing. It doesn't like being cold/frozen.

I shoot it occasionally and may build on it someday, but it doesn't get hunted anymore as I don't trust it to not have issues in the field.

My dad bought an A bolt in 270 in 93 or 94 and I think he killed 3 deer with it. I killed far far more with that rifle since he hardly ever shot, he is a looker not a shooter. He got in bad health and had a Picc line put in in 2015 and couldn't shoot that 270 anymore and he sold it and bought a heavy 308. To this day I absolutely want to kick myself in the nuts for not buying that rifle from him. That was an absolutely awesome hunting rifle in a good caliber. If I catch one at a decent price ever I'm going to buy it and probably give it to daddy/use it some myself.

I’d be looking at an older gloss leupold for that rifle, the medallions just look so much better with a gloss scope and gloss rings
