New to Idaho elk hunting, and pulled a Beaverhead archery tag!

I’ve hunted elk with some success in New Mexico and having five units to choose from is kind of awesome but also a little overwhelming. Trying to get some advice on where to start in September.

Also, I plan on doing some solo hunting and curious how active the bears are in this area. I’ll have a sidearm for bear defense and will hopefully talk one of my friends into joining me for portions of the hunt. Anyone in the same boat and would like to pair up for the hunt?

Are there any recommendations for game retrieval services in the area if I go that route?

Any recommendations on a good meat processor?

My buddy had a ground blind near an elk carcass they had killed a couple days earlier, 4 bears circling him snapping their jaws- they knew he was there- and no firearm.

There are G bear trail warnings but I have not personally seen a G bear in there.

Guys running motorized vehicles in closed areas all over in there- I won't hunt that unit again.

Freezer in Leadore, I don't know about processor, I do my own.

I have hunted the Beaverhead a few times recently. Congrats on the tag. Never had any issues with bears and often spiked out, but be prepared and use common sense.

The OP has obviously never been to Leadore. Keep in mind- that little town- if you could call it that- keeps bankers hours.

Haha nope haven’t been there yet. Soon enough though. Thanks for the hours update, that’ll help for planning purposes.

It's possible, but extremely remote. Grizzlies have been seen there, but it is nothing like Island Park.
