We have hunted the Adirondacks for bears in the past however never hunted them out west and have never been successful.

We are looking at going to Montana probably around mid May for 23 spring black bear before I start CRNA school.

I know narrowed it down to the area around the Pintler mountains. I know to look for the green in the spring and to focus on south facing slopes ideally.

Is mid May too late in this area? What the grizz population like?

We will cover ground and get in as far as we need to that's not a problem.

Mid-may should not be too late, weather varies wildly in the spring. Not a ton of grizzlies in that neck of the woods but they are there. PM me.

Can’t help you with bear hunting In Montana, I’m going back to Wyoming.
Just wanted to say good luck with the CRNA schooling. My youngest graduates in December and already has a contract for 400k!
Wish I’d have gone that route.

This year there was still quite a bit of snow in the Pintlars as well as the rest of the mountains in Western MT mid-May but that has been the exception in recent years. Might not affect your hunting prospects but possibly your vehicle/hiking plans
