I drew my first antelope tag for Malheur, OR and I am new to the area. I would appreciate any advice anyone would care to share. I'm a long time elk/deer hunter so I'm not new to hunting. I also have done a lot of backpack hunting, so I'm comfortable being out for extended times unsupported. Thanks in advance and take care.

Good news, while Antelope ought to be called medium game instead of big game, they are IMO the easiest “big game” animal to hunt in the western US. Active a lot in the daytime and not crepuscular. Oftentimes they are out in the open and easy to find.

As long as there are lope in the area your tag is good for, and I’ve never hunted Oregon myself, should be far easier than elk or deer.

Bring good glass and a tripod to shoot off getting you above the sage.
Take your time and enjoy the process, one of the funniest hunts in the west.

Knee and elbow pads for crawling. Leather gloves are very helpful. Were I hunt them the terrain will tear up your clothes, hands, ect.

Also, whatever you drive for your hunt I'd make sure your tires are up to it, the roads in that unit are not the worst in E. Oregon but they aren't kind to your rig, never fun to get a flat out in the desert:)
