New TMK announced

I asked the Sierra guy at the Hunt Expo that question specifically. He said an 8 twist will not get you the full capability of the BC of the 88s. He said they need a 7 twist.

I had the same conversation with the Sierra guy at the expo, too. I’m going to try them in my 8 twist rechambered tikka 22-250 barrel and see how they do. I shoot the 88 ELDm and at my elevation/DA, it has been stable. With the lower BC of the 88 TMK, I think they will be okay.

hmm i’ll be testing 88s in a 22CM (16.25” 7.5tw) at 2500-3500 DA. hopefully that’s fast enough. will share results.

I’ll be testing the 88-grain TMK’s in a Tikka 1:8 twist .22-250 at 2000-4000 DA. I ordered them based on some of the earlier test results. But I don’t expect to have them in hand for a while. And my rifle is still getting its wooden RokStok.

I’m sure the guy said this, but my understanding of stability is that it’s a product of RPM which comes down to MV and the DA where you’re shooting.

Using the JBM stability calculator, a 1:7.5 twist seems to get to 1.5 pretty easily. 1:8, not so much.

Someone please correct me if I’m totally misunderstanding stability.
I’m second guessing my 18” 8 twist 22 creed now too…

Pretty sure it's not just twist rate, but twist rate and velocity combined for minimum RPMs to stabilize longer bullets, isn't it?

16.5” working against me there too tho. But Form says it will work so maybe. I did not have issues with 88 ELD-Ms but I don’t remember how fast I was pushing them. May have it somewhere in my notes.

Anyone know the ogive length of the 88TMKs?

I've been wondering if I can make them work in an AR mag (2.325" without windowing, ~2.365 with windowing the magazine). I can get 80 ELD-M to work okay at around 2.325", but these are a little longer OAL than the 80s.

22ARC or 223?

Yeah, good question. 223.

I've managed to run 88 ELD-M in 223 in those mags, but not ideal and never shot too well. Was hoping the Sierras with their different ogive and slightly shorter length might work.

I highly doubt it.
