The caps on the maven are so aggressively knurled you’re lucky if they don’t twist all the way off walking to your glassing knob. Better glove up if you need to dial


Classifieds finna be lit with 77 and 95 TMKs, 115 Dtacs and all manner of Hornady eld bullets. Then if the scope ever hits bar the doors as a flood of Mavens, trijicon and nightforce hit the classifieds.

Cool. Now we need a SAAMI’ed 25 PRC type cartridge or 25-06AI or something besides the 25 CM to use these nice new 25 cal bullets. I’ve done wildcatting and don’t really want to do it anymore.

The 6 PRC is easy enough with a bushing die and the 25 will be the same.

I reload obviously. But sometimes it’s nice to grab some cheaper factory ammo for training, and I get tired of searching for one piece of brass I lost…

Who coined that name? Go ahead and ask him how long it took me telling him the ELD-M 88gr sometimes failed to upset well before he saw it with his own eyes. And how long ago was the first time that I posted that ELD-M’s in certain calibers/weights don’t upset like they should sometimes- it been at least 5 years.

I agree, and that’s the once fired 6.5 Hornady brass I reload the 6 PRC range ammo with… don’t care much if I lose it.

I agree, it is nice to be able to grab a box of ammo sometimes. I stopped reloading for .223…

BC ain’t everything…but comparing current comparable products, Sierras TMK offerings lag behind Hornady which at least for me have been “close” to published BCs and shoot well in most of my rigs.

I am guessing even the 153 TMK will just barely best the 140/143 ELDM/X offering at .64-.62 (but cost 100fps or more to push out). Same story with other calibers unfortunately. The Hornady offerings are a bit cheaper too.

Like most I’m happy to see options….but am hoping I’m wrong and these are more slick than current sierras for weight.

Also, the Matchking-X line (hunting expandable) in .22 cal (77g) could be neat as well.

Everything is a trade off. The design that produces max BC in a tipped bullet, also effect terminal ballistics.

Fwiw You and Ryan are not the drum beaters of whom I spoke. I suspect sierra’s introduction of these bullets correlates fairly hard with the popularity of the 77,95 and 130 tmk and this site must drive that popularity in orders of magnitude compared to other forums.

It’s the gents on here who read your experiences and extrapolate them, Then any time someone mentions a scope or bullet they speak to authority as if it was their personal experience and like it’s an issue.

I don’t think I’ve gone weird, at least no weirder than normal, I took a little hiatus and when I came back there were a few new loud voices that were experts and very loud about it. What they were saying in thread A did not mirror their experience in thread B. You see it in the kill threads a lot. Dude stacks a bunch of deer and elk with an eld m/x. No complaints in thread, then mere days later they’re saying there’s an issue.

I very well could be making it up, would not be the first time I noticed a pattern that wasn’t there.

I do expect a dump of gear as this comes available though. It’s the nature of this site, when the rokstok dropped the classifieds were flooded with aftermarket Tikka stocks. New bullets and scopes will have the same sway

Great news that sierra is making some heavies. They will likely lag bergers in Bc, but still another option none the less. I'll try out the 153's to compare to the 156 bergers.

For faster initial upset/shorter neck length, yes. That's my reason for wanting the TMK option. As great as the 115 DTAC is terminally, faster upsets are good for some species. Deer, antelope, and bear in particular.
It's probably a marginal gain, but there's months to tinker in between now and spring bear.

My apologies. There have been several that have seemed to come up with some nefarious idea about is happening lately, and it read the same. With use comes more information, and unfortunately very few people can get large numbers of experiences to see trends or issues- or even recognize it when it does happen. It has to be pretty blatant for most to see it- Ryan’s last deer with the 180gr ELD-M as an example. A couple of times he and I have taken an animal apart where I was pointing out the underwhelming wound channel, but the animal died quickly so it didn’t really sink in until it was egregious.

Also- specifically on ELD-M’s; it is lot# to lot# variable- which also makes it harder to see issues. Some/most lots are very good, but some for whatever reason produce narrower than expected wounds pretty often- even when shot side by side into animals with a different lot# that is performing well. That is not meant to, and never was meant to say that ELD-M’s are “bad”- just that I prefer the wound profiles and overall behavior better with other bullets.

I’m the end: Ryan’s and my goal is ONLY to get better equipment, or to get the equipment up to where it should be.

Oh there’s no doubt about that. People were dumping their 3-9x SWFA’s for Maven RS1.2’s when they came out, and I told every one that asked not to do that, and that the 3-9x was a better general hunting scope if it was available.

Spot on. The NR DTAC is probably the best overall elk bullet I’ve seen used in any caliber… but it is not my preference for deer/bear/goats for exactly that reason.

I’m stoked.
But it’s tempered by how frustrated I was recently trying to get 80eldx and 88eldm to shoot in my 22 creed. Never even got the chance to see how they would do in animals because of finicky groups. No matter what powder or seating depth I tried. Ended up thankfully finding a gem loaded with 77tmk. I know I wasn’t the only one to experience this frustration in the 22cm.

In my mind, the BC of the 88eldm is effectively 0 if I can’t get it to shoot consistently in my gun.

So with these new tmk’s, I want to see these bullets first hand. How they shoot and tune with my equipment. I hope we find that they shoot great, and are just as terminally effective as we’ve come to expect.
But I’m also a little worried. Hopefully Sierra didn’t change the recipe that seems to make the TMK work.

Any predictions on if the 115-117 6mm will stabilize in a 1:8 at 6 Creedmoor velocities?

I would think terminally, there may not be enough difference in wounding for a 6 CM shooter to worry about between the 95, 107, and 115-117.

But maybe a convenient side effect would be the 115 would slow a 6 CM to align with quick drop better.

Either way, I’m excited. Hopefully a few of these end up in factory ammo as well. I do reload when I have to, but I like to just buy ammo and shoot these days. Not enough time to these days.
