Sorry for the delay in updating. I broke the rifle down and deleted the plastic barrel nub on the stock. I also remounted the scope and base. Everything felt solid after remounting.
After picking up another box of Hornady 175 precision hunter and CX 160s I hit the range. The 175s grouped just under 1.5 moa at 100 yards. I was still a little underwhelmed. The 160 CXs grouped better. I took a picture of the best group. Unfortunately I didn’t have my calipers but the circle is an inch so I would say it was just over an inch group.
After seeing the gun like the 160 CXs the best I’m going to order more lighter loads and see what happens.
Overall I’m happier with how this range trip went. As long as I’m getting around a moa with factory stock and loads I’m happy. Eventually the rifle will be moved to a MDT LSS Gen 3 chassis when it’s released for Tikka long actions.
More updates to follow!
Where were you able to find one? EuroOptic still shows the lefties not in stock yet and my local dealer says they can't get them yet.I just picked up a left hand tikka T3 lite in 7mm PRC today and it’s barrel and box both say 1-8 twist as well.
A quick measurement shows the barrel is around 22 3/8 long
Try Scheels or Sportsman’s WarehouseWhere were you able to find one? EuroOptic still shows the lefties not in stock yet and my local dealer says they can't get them yet.
No lefty T3X lite on either of their sites yet.Try Scheels or Sportsman’s Warehouse
Be careful about having the barrel cut if you want to stick with 5/8x24 threads. It is my understanding that the new threaded Tikka Lites have a flared muzzle to be able to use 5/8x24.No lefty T3X lite on either of their sites yet.
I can be to Euro in less than 1.5hours, so I can save on transfer and shipping fees if I can wait them out. Then I can drop it at RW Hart on my way home and have them trim the tube to 19" and be threaded for my can.
I have a Left-handed T3X SS coming in tomorrow "hopefully". Ill get a out of the box weight and post when I get it.Anyone have the actual weight of this particular rifle?
That’s a typo or somebody not reading correctly. Is the twist a 1:8 ? The S2H guys were saying it was listed as a 1:9
Same. I've seen some stores and sites post that they 1:9 but if you look at the rifles them self they are stamped 1:8.My factory Tikka 7prc is 1:8 twist. 22" and 5/8"×24tpi
I just picked up a Tikka T3X Lite 22 inch barrel in 7mm PRC 1/8 twist. I previously had a 308 T3X CTR in 308 that shot lights out. It was a half MOA gun and I was expecting this 7mm PRC to be no different.
I took it to the range today after putting a Salmon River Solutions picatinny rail and Maven RS 1.2 on the gun. The RS 1.2 was torqued to 18 inch pounds in Talley Sporter scope rings and 25 inch pounds to the Salmon River Solutions picatinny rail. The Salmon River Solutions Rail was torqued to 15 inch pounds to the receiver, all screws were thread locked with blue Loctite 242. I was shooting at 5000 feet elevation, 80 degrees and almost zero wind.
After building a solid shooting position using a bipod and rear bag I began to sight in the rifle. My shots were all over the place. The best group I was able to get was 1.5 MOA with Hornady ELDx hunter 175 grain ammo which I chronographed at 2775 fps. Sometimes I shot high, low, left or right all in the same shot 3-5 shot group. Thinking it was just me, which I haven’t completely ruled out yet, I grabbed my AR with a 1-6 LPVO and had a second round impact on steel at 500 yards. I proceeded to hit the steel 10 more times before going back to the Tikka.
My results were the same. I shot 40 rounds over the course of two and a half hours, twenty Hornady ELDxs and twenty Hornady Match 180 grains. The gun did not like the match 180 grain ammo which shot closer to two inch groups.
Overall I’m confused as to why the gun didn’t shoot. I understand that not all factory Tikkas are going to shoot sub MOA out of the box, but I was definitely expecting one group to be under an MOA at least. Is anyone else having issues with these new 7mm PRC Tikkas or just me? I will be shooting again Monday and will capture pictures for proof. Hopefully I will have pictures of 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups and I can chalk this up just to a bad one time experience.
Tikka fan
They tested that same rifle - caliber combo on Backfire TV (youtube) and had the same results. He is a huge Tikka fan (as am I) and he always raves about the Tikka lite and superlite but he was quiet disappointed with the 7mmPRC. I don't buy the whole large caliber and lite rifle theory as I have a Tikka T3 in 7mm mag as does my brother , and my nephew has the 300 win mag in the T3x lite and they all shoot lights out.I just picked up a Tikka T3X Lite 22 inch barrel in 7mm PRC 1/8 twist. I just wanted to get this experience out there as a potential precautionary tail for new Tikka 7mm PRC buyers and to get ideas how I can remedy this in case I went wrong somewhere.
