Thinking about getting a new tent this year. Looking at the tarptent double rainbow an the light heart gear Solong 6. I'm 6'8" tall so not to sure on the double rainbow might be to close at the end where head an feet will be with tent walls. The solong 6 is nice but have to use trekking poles cause it isn't free standing. Has anyone used either of these an what do you think. Is there a lot of room in both? Thanks mike

I love my double rainbow. I am 6'1" and there is plenty of room. I think you would be fine. The double rainbow can be pitched fret standing with poles but you can stake it down also.

Tents for us tall guys is a tough one unless we want to be pushing the walls. The best I've found is the BA Copper Spur UL4 for length, but it's heavy at almost 6lbs. I've got the UL2 as well, but I'm pushing it in that one. For just me it's survivable for a few nights to save the weight. But if someone is going with me and we can use the same shelter I'll take the UL4.

Thanks guys yeh def hard to find a tent my size. Think I'm gonna give the so long 6 a try. For the price an weight of the tent it isn't bad. Also plan on making a silnylon tarp before I go this year about $40 to make. Keep in my day pack an a pop up shelter if need be.

Check out bear paw wilderness. Canopy2 with 2 extended vestibules, or a lagarita 3. Both should have plenty of length for you.

I had the TT Notch, bought from member here. Henry makes great stuff. It was too small width and length for my liking. My buddy has a double rainbow and the LHG Solong 6. He uses his rainbow in winter and Solong rest of the time. After seeing his Solong, I bought the same and have only set it up on the house. Due to family issues, I have not been out to give i a good workout. From the house set up, it is easy both with or without trekking poles. I also purchase a set of poles from LHG so I can go away from camp and use my poles and feel the weight penalty is nothing.

My TT Notch in rainy weather was not fun, thus the Solong 6 purchase and it fits well with plenty of room for gear and moving around.

I had never seen that Solong 6 before. Might be worth a try. However, I have no idea how most people sleep because they say "There is so much room in this tent that 2 ‘regular size’ people can share it".

Ya, if they are sharing the same sleeping pad and spooning all night. The tent is 30" wide on each end. I must be missing something again, on how "regular sized" people sleep.

The TT Protrail is 4" shorter than the Doublerainbow @ 84", but if you're up against the edge it's just the tub floor, not the tarp itself.

The vesitibule should have room for your pack and stuff..

26oz nested for $209 is pretty hard to beat!

I don't own one but I'm planning on getting one if the need for a solo nested hunt should arise...

Thanks n2horns. This is exactly what I was looking for someone who seen both or had both an your review helps a lot. We were in some rain last year an my tent sucked sitting up in so I think for sure going to go with the so long 6. Prob will just seam seal it once I get it an test it out should be good to go.

I'm 6'8 and got a solong 6 last year. With an exped pad and 20 degree down bag the toe box hits the wall of the tent when sleeping on my back. I woke up with cold feet a few times after the condensation soaked the bottom of the bag. If you're a side sleeper you should be fine though.

Damn that's what I was wondering most I am a back sleeper as well an this happen in my last tent but I just put a towel over my bag every night to soak up an barrier the condensation to my bag. Wasn't to bad. Other than that would u say there is a lot of room for us big guys in there? How is everything with the tent u like it. Thanks

Other than that I really like the tent. Plenty of room to sit up and get ready. Easy to get in and out of. You can fit all your gear inside when running the awning in storm mode and still be comfortable. Been through a few long downpours and it didn't leak. Only takes a few minutes set up. Very well made tent. Weighs 2#9oz on my scale with 6 msr groundhogs and tyvek groundcloth.

Why haven't any of you checked out the scarp 1 or 2 I'm 6"6 and that's what I've been eye balling

I did check out the Scarp 2. It's about the same size as the CS UL2, but heavier. And the CS can be run in fast fly mode and run even lighter with more room. And I got it for cheaper than the Scarp 2. I'm 6'6" as well.

The Scarp can be set up in fast fly mode as well. I appreciate the fact it's American made also. The CS line are good tents but at the end of the day I can do without anymore Chinese made gear.
