Here are a couple of shots showing what it looks like loaded up with what I'd consider a pretty decent daypack load. 85mm angled spotter, tripod, sitting pad, FL uncompahgre, rain jacket, heavy gloves, beanie, 1L nalgene, jetboil minimo, possibles bag, USB battery pack, extra AAAs.

Bag unzipped.

Everything inside and zipped up.

With everything inside it was pretty full but there was still space to play with. Moving the tripod to the outside frees up all kinds of space. I'm going to be ordering a hydroholster for it to get a nalgene on the outside as well.

I know the Avail 2200 is listed as a daypack but with adding an external spotting scope pocket to one side would it have enough space for lightweight backpack hunting? Obviously I’m never gonna attempt packing out elk size game with something this size but it seems to be so space efficient from just looking at it online that you could accomplish way more than the usually day pack would do.

When I got my Avail a year ago I really liked everything about it, except I wanted something a little bigger. Emailed SG and shared my thoughts about a 3300 ish size internal frame pack ( I’m guessing a few other people did too). When the Kiowa showed up it looked like what I was looking for. It showed up today and here are my initial thoughts.

Layout looks good, similar to some of the other packs that size, but with the internal frame. I didn’t realize that the middle vertical zipper accesses a separate compartment from the main compartment, a very nice surprise.

Inside the main compartment it has the two pockets attached to the outside flap, just like the Avail. On the back side there is hook and loop as well as straps and buckles. I believe that the hook and loop is for attaching their new camp pockets / organizers. Not entirely sure that I’ll need the straps and buckles, but time will tell. They really don’t take up any space, and don’t weigh much.

Spotter pocket off to the side looks like it should hold a decent size scope, but don’t have one here currently.

This time of the year I will use it on the Xcurve frame. Attachment was easy, almost the same as the Avail (video online).

Personally I think this will hit all the marks that I was looking for. An internal frame that is super comfortable and can handle mid range weights and can also attach to a frame when necessary.

Those are my thoughts. I haven’t seen any information or reviews out there on this pack, so thought I’d share.

I should be up in Bozeman in July so I think I’ll stop by the SG store and try on several to see what fits me best. Thanks for the great info on this thread.
