I have a Super Shadow cheapy walmart win 70 in 300wsm that id like to upgrade the stock on. I dont want to spend a ton, so im wondering if a different winchester stock would be a better stock? like a duratouch style or something. or just say screw it and save for a different rifle?

Two rifles that are the factory's idea of what a rifle should be probably won't get you more excited or comfortable. I'd vote for saving for a decent stock instead of another rifle. your rifle and cartridge combo can do it all for hunting so dress her up with a great stock and bedding. I am partial to Bansner's/High Tech Specialties stocks on my M70s but a McM would be great as would some of the others folks mention.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I do like my rifle and it is very accurate running Fusion 165gr ammo from federal. im thinking new stock and threaded barrel so i can suppress it in the future. i have a clamp on brake now to help with recoil, but it is too loud.

also a stock that fits you well and of the right design will help mitigate felt recoil. I know the Bansner/High Tech Specialties stocks seem to soften my rifles a bit. Others on here can probably explain why...I don't know why but just know it does. Good luck with your search and decision.

Just checked them out and they are really not that expensive $330 isnt much more than a crappy bell and carlson. i already tried a stockys thumbhole laminated but it cracked on me and was heavy to carry. i think ill give one a shot, thanks for the insight!

Don’t forget with the high tech specialties you’ll have to do a recoil pad install, sand, prime, paint and bed the stock.

I had an older M70 Extreme weather that I passed on to my father then I got a brand new M70 extremem that has the newer model of bell and Carlson stock. ITs a huge upgrade from the older chunkier model. That being said, I just went ahead and got a Macmillan for it.

Just saw that, wouldn't be too bad a project I guess.
