I just got the new heavyweight hoody and midweight zip-t. Haven’t had a chance to try them in hunting conditions but the material seems thinner than the 2018 models on both pieces. My first thought is that they’re not going to be as warm as the previous versions. Does anyone have any comparisons on these new tops vs the older versions?

What was supposed to be better or newer with the 2019 models compared to the 2018 ? I run a 2018 heavyweight top myself and am curious to know

I have two previous verison of the CORE HW...cant kill the things. I cant see how they can be better.

I wish Sitka would make a shirt with chest pockets. I have to wear Cabelas Microtex instead, but will happily switch if Sitka starts making them.
I have the hoody and zip T, but still would like the shirt with pockets (Sitka, are you listening)?

The material on the new ones are suppose to breathe better and dry faster. Also, as far as the heavyweight hoody goes the new ones now zip up the middle instead of to the side. Again, I haven’t actually tried them in hunting conditions but it doesn’t seem like the new pieces have as much loft as the older ones. If anyone has any input I’d like to hear it from someone who has done a comparison between the two versions.

I have a brand new heavy weight here and one thats a couple years old. Material seems the same, maybe more plush on the new one because it hasnt been washed and worn a millions times.

I know the mid weight was supposed to be lighter as the previous versions where heavy for a mid weight,so there was a change in weight of the mid weight ,But i thought the heavy weight was going to be the same but breath better.
I only have the light weight stuff for 2019 so far. waiting for the elevated II

I just went to Sportsman’s Warehouse to double check and compare and the grid fleece on the 2018 version is way thicker than the new version for the heavyweight hoody. I can see it breathing a lot better, but I’m afraid it just won’t be as warm.

No you got me wondering if I should grab some 2018 stuff at a discount. the new fanatic hoodie is also going to be the same material

here a video he does mention there lighter weight and breath, nothing about warmth

I really like a vest because it offers upper body core warmth plus freedom of movement in the arms. It also is smaller in bulk compared to a jacket. It's possible to wear a shirt alone, shirt plus vest, shirt plus vest plus jacket to cover a slew of different temperature regimes!

I bought a Fanatic vest this winter and really like it! It's fleece with a super nice hand warming pouch plus a large zippered pouch in front. I picked the Fanatic vest because it is super quiet and likely more rugged in thick brush compared to the newer model Sitka vests. The Fanatic has more insulation so I am guessing it is warmer in cold weather.

On Dudley's podcast Barklow said the heavyweight was lighter but warmth should be comparable, if I'm remembering correctly.

We have been able to try them out, and they are very comparable to the 2018 mode warmth wisel. My favorite part about the new 2019 Heavy weight hoody is the seems are offset from the shoulder to help with rubbing from a pack. They also changed the hoods so it is not white. It is going to have a dark gray/ tan with a little of the Optifade Concealment pattern inside the hood. That is one thing we insisted needed to change when they announced the core we going to change.

That’s great news! I’m definitely excited to try them out under real hunting conditions.

I would love to know what you think of them. We would love to hear what people have to say once they are used in the field.

Is the 2019 looser in size? The 2018 medium was way too tight and the 2019 is pretty loose. I have the fanatic in large and it fits perfect. Trying to decide if I'll exchange for the 2019 heavyweight in Medium..

I think they did adjust sizing. Previously a large was tight across my chest, shoulders and arms so I went with an XL but then dealt with sleeves too long.

I got a new hw hoody in large now and it fits me perfectly. I’m 5’9 and 180-190lbs.
