New to long range shooting, hunt mostly bow elk and mulies with a basic savage setup. I decided to get a rig that can stretch its legs a little more, but I don't have unlimited funds. So far I've purchased:
Used Tikka Roughtech .308 16" threaded barrel
New Zeiss conquest v4 4-14x44
Vortex mid height rings and picatinny rail
B&T printx 762 ti supressor
Caldwell bipod
Deathgrip style tripod setup.

I know its not the hot new cartridge, but i have familiarity with it already, and ammo is decidedly cheaper for me to practice with. Shots on game will probably be 400 or under (fastest shot in 25 years hunting has been 225) once I'm capable, but would like to ring steel as far as possible. Let me know if you have any tips/tricks/or see any holes in my setup so far. Thanks!

Sounds good!

I'd look at getting a wind meter off of Amazon, a 16 inch 308 is going to get pushed around a lot by wind at distance, mitigating that as much as possible at the shooter will be a lot easier with a good ballistics app and a 30 dollar wind meter off of Amazon.

For shooting off the tripod with the death grip style I think you might have a smaller wobble zone if you went to a game changer or some other shooting bag and then put that on top of the tripod, I know some people like the hogsaddles but when I've shot them the wobble is greater than just shooting off a bag

Thanks, I'll check both out! Was also looking at the arca style mounts, but figured id get some rounds through the grip style to see how it like it first, bag is a great idea.
