New Schmidt and Bender Meta 3-18x42

I think Id prefer their p3 or p4 reticle and ffp on an 18x scope if for no other reason than holding wind, but I’ll bet its a nice scope.

Glad they are working on hunting rifles. I'm going to nitpick but the turret is too tall and will snag on my pack straps and whatnot. 18x is not worth it over 15x if it means it fish-eyes at lower power like the review says.

Theres a favourable review at the end of this thread......

I’ve been watching this scope for years. Reticle was a big let down for holding wind. I wouldn’t pay that money unless it checked all my boxes and it sadly missed some. Would still like to play with one sometime! Bet it’s amazing to look through.

It's more X's than I need, but I could live with that. Like others, FFP and a measured hunting reticle are what I would like in it.

IIRC, these came out sometime back. I have been in contact with S&B via emails about an FFP version; they say it is in the works. I feel like all of the euro scope companies are offering a comparable model, and all in SFP.

I’ve had the meta on back order from optics planet for eight months now. Don’t think I’ll ever see it at this point. But who knows. I was in it for the glass quality and 18 times magnification for Identification purposes.

Picked up a Meta and mounted it to a custom 6.5 PRC Defiance/Proof/Manners build - It’s a very light weight optic with amazing clarity and field of view. The fit and finish is very good. My model has the capped windage with the pisicon turret. Not my favorite turret to be honest…but the tactile feel and audible click is really nice. May have gripped about the reticle and its lack of sub-tensions. I don’t disagree with the concerns. However, I will say that the optic does an amazing job tracking and the simple reticle allows for super quick acquisition of targets. To compensate for the lack of reticle ranging, S&B makes an elevation turret with prepopulated sub-tensions, or you can do like I did, and build a rock solid dope card. For me, weight was a big consideration as was the magnification range. The Meta fits the bill nicely at a decent price point…There aren’t make 20ozish optics with this performance and features.

Hate to revive and old thread but just got a chance to play with the new FFP version in Alaska. VERY nice. Great reticle, excellent glass and like 24oz. $4200 ish. Really liked the turret compared to the PMII. The "hard' click on full mils of the hunting turret is softer and easier to not skip over the next click compared to the military version.
Now just need to check current kidney prices to see if I can pick one up in the fall.

I would wait until after December to purchase! Some new reticles and much better FOV specs when the patent issue ends. I was told they are in the states just waiting to legally advertise. I would expect this shot show to be awesome for optics.
