Feeling sorry for myself as I rehab from surgery to repair a torn up rotator cuff I want to buy myself a new toy. Something to help soothe the pain and motivate me to get through the physical therapy and get ready for next falls hunts. I’m looking at a Weatherby Backcountry 2.0 TI in 7MM PRC. Thoughts on rifle and caliber choice from those in the know. Thanks in advance. JD

If it was me and a soothing gun, something that I could shoot more often and a lot. Something in the 223 case or even one of the 6 mm long range cartridges. Less kick and powder for reloading. Great tinkering guns.

I had similar surgery a few years ago and it didn’t go well. A magnum cartridge in a light rifle wouldn’t be my first choice, but to quote the great philosopher, Sheryl Crow, “if it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad.” It might inspire you to work hard in rehab so you can shoot it well. Now, four years removed from the surgery, my shoulder still hurts almost all the time, so most of my shooting is with light-recoil rifles, but I did get two 9.3x62s because they make me happy.

Might wanna wait til that shoulder is good and healed to sight that in. No experience with the 7PRC but I really like my. 6.5 PRC

How about building a gun that will take you a long time to get the parts together? Research all of the parts including the caliber.
