Long story short...I had a Browning 7mm Rem Mag on order but the lead time was unfavorable. I switched gears and decided to go with the same model in a 300 WSM. Looking for a good factory load as a starting point for sending some loads down range to get everything somewhat dialed in. The goal is to be accurate out to about 500 yards. Will be hunting Muleys in Montana this fall so that is a factor. The details...

Browning X-Bolt Pro Long Range
300 WSM
26" barrel
1-10 twist
Radial brake will likely stay on most of the time

Any suggestions?

Barnes vortex 165 or hornady superformance in 165 in mine was really accurate, a lot of guys love the heavier bullets in their rifles, 1 other question how far are you planning to shoot

Bsnyder- I have an option to reach out to 800 but at that point I would be more interested in load development with a buddy who has a reloader. The Barnes was also mentioned by a guy at work.

Between 3 us last year we shot 24 animals with them, now I hand load but use all of their bullets all 1 shot 1 kills and 98 percent were bang flops I had 2 that mad it 20 yards. Love them and I hunt states that don't require copper but they are hard to beat in my eyes

Do you current shoot a certain brand ammo that you like? I would start off with variations of that company. For example, Nosler you have Accubonds, Partitions, E Tips and BT's. See what your gun likes. Its expensive but in the end you will be so much more happy. Hornaday, you have ELD-X/M, American Whitetail, GMX, etc.

i got a tikka t3x in 300wsm and ordered ~10 different boxes of elk ammo between grabagun and wholesale hunter to try out. both places have good prices per ammoseek and fixed or low shipping costs. hope to do the ammo shootout in the very near future, been cold and crappy here for too long.

Norma ammo is pretty good and if you start reloading it is good brass as well. I handload and use Barnes 180 grain TTSX for game bigger than Whitetail with Norma 300 WSM brass. Federal Trophy Copper is decent out of SOME rifles (mine hated it, my buddy's rifle shoots cloverleafs with it).

Before I started handloading, I found that if a rifle was picky with the brand of ammo I shot out of it, Federal worked. So, when shooting a new rifle I decided to start with Federal. When the Fusion ammo came out, I tried it in a few rifles and didn't find one that didn't like it. Its good stuff, performed very good for me on deer, and is cheap.

My short mag really liked the barnes vortex ammo before I started reloading.
