New proof PXT Gain twist barrels

Wouldn’t a reflex can over all that carbon barrel cook the carbon over time and cause issues?
I doubt it, the resin proof uses is rated to 1500* according to the internet and I’m pretty sure they warn against getting ti cans hotter than 800-900* anyway.

Seekins gain-twist carbon barrels fit with OG OTB suppressors for what its worth. They are a noticibly smaller diameter carbon barrel than most.

This is not new. I think the fine tuning is new. Hope it does what it says.. In Eastern MT Western ND had a gunsmith that spun these like 10-15 years ago he didn’t have the numbers on gun forms ”social media” back then didn’t “take off”

Yeah. My reading says this is old tech. I do kinda hate how people are acting like this is something new and great and how it’s necessary for peak plus. It’s not.

Can you clarify if you mean gain twist is not new or this version called EXPONENTIAL gain twist is not new? My understanding is this uses new tech ECM to cut the rifling. Just curious what exactly isn’t new here

My knowledge is just reading. Though I doubt many have manufactured their own gain twist barrels so most of us are just guessing.

Progressive gained barrels have been around since the 1500s. The manufacturing costs seems to be why it hasn’t been used more.

The amount of the gain seems to be new with pxt, going from 1:500” down the the end twist. But progressive gain barrels have been made for a long time, with bartlein and others offering custom barrels with less severe gains. It seems like every 15 years or so it has popped up as the new hotness then died back down.

What I continue to ask is what is the benefit? If it truly improves accuracy and speed then it could be really cool. If all it does is extend barrel life with high pressure, but at roughly double the cost, then I fail to see what the hype is.

I hope someone with more knowledge than me comes on and tells me the answer.

@Formidilosus do you have any answers to this?

I’m with you. All for new tech that works and cost is just part of it. FWIW I think they are about 40-50% more not quite double. This tech in some form has been used in military applications for tank shells and the like for a long time iirc. Not arguing with you at all just clarifying what exactly we are talking about that is new vs old tech.

Where do you guys keep getting this cost from? I see this on every forum I’m on. From the prices listed on their website you’re looking at less than a 20% increase.

Looks like for most prefits it’s 150-350 more. But it also say life expectancy 30-100% longer. So still lines up with the money and time being a wash.

Come on bro, tell me you’re not trying to compare steel to carbon. I was born at night but it wasn’t last night :D

Comparing like products, carbon to carbon, 15% increase. $999 to $1149

I was just using AI to give me generalities.

You’re right. Apples to apples it’s 150 dollars more for carbon fiber.

Do they make them in stainless steel now? If not that’s an increased cost too since most here don’t use carbon fiber routinely.

Not that I know of for bolt action barrels, they’re just carbon for the time being. I’m sure that will change shortly. AR barrels are offered in stainless with PXT and traditional. The price increase is similar percentage.
