Sierra Trading Post has some closeout Mystery Ranch packs pretty cheap. They are imported and not the hunting line, but I don't see them putting their name on something crappy. As has been said, used is a great way to go. Consider HPG as well for made in U.S., but lower price point.

I'm following this thread as well. I would really like to be able to try all of them side by side as I have heard they all fit differently for different body types. My problem is my a$$ is about as wide as my shoulders even when I'm in pretty good shape, 5'11" 200#, not the typical wide shoulders & narrow at the hips to quote old Jimmy Dean.

Are the big shows the only place to really try them all? Learned a hard lesson this year packing out an Aoudad with a day pack.

Been thinking about either a MR Guide Lite frame or SO Revolution Suspension with dry bag/day pack combo.

For me getting a pack with a overload shelf was an absolute game changer. It will really come in handy if you are packing in bags of dog food to feed your bears.

If you're thinking SO, you'll be pleased. I've run the Peregrine for the last year on everything from shed hunts to late season cow elk. Just ordered the Lanner too. I really like the Merlin for day hikes. The whole system is super light and sturdy. If you do choose the SO, be sure the gatekeeper buckles are mounted correctly otherwise they can break. I've run an EXO, MR and old school Alaska Guide frame too. Friends that have Kifaru and SG all speak highly of those as well.
