New moose rifle needed?

Both. Hornady makes an ELDM garand-specific load that shoots excellently and I imagine would pulverize a deer, but I haven't shot one with it yet.

I put one of those garand gear gas plugs on mine and recklessly feed it any off the shelf 150gr ammo, garand specific heavy bullet match loads, and regular recipie 150gr bullet reloads and stay below the mid point of the min-max charge range using IMR4895 or W748.

I treat mine like the old war horse it is. I think the bent op rod thing is very dramatically overblown. Keep it greasy and if youre worried, stick to garand specific ammo, 150gr OTC .30-06 ammo, and IMR4895 150gr bullet recipes or garand specific heavy bullet recipes.
Right on dude. I'll have to check out the Hornady load. I have a Schuster plug sitting around but just haven't bothered installing it.

Pretty much anything is a moose cartridge. From a 223 on up. If you want to keep it weird, why not a 444 marlin in a lever, or a 375 raptor with subs, 450 marlin, 500sw lever(or 460).
You already have a 280 rem, which honestly, I'd take hunting over the 358 win, but why not a 6.5x55 or one of the 9.3mm cartridges?
I have a 6.5x55 in pieces, lol. I acquired it years ago. Needs a stock, and a bit of gunsmithing in the condition it's in.

I deer hunt with mine a fair bit. Fun fun fun.

You never know when the moose might band together and fight back. If they do, do you want to be sitting there with a paltry 4 rounds on tap from your non-stripper-clip-loadable bolt action hunting rifle, or do you want to be well equipped to hold bastogne through winter? The choice is yours, but the correct choice is obvious.

We love to talk reliability around here. Well, the ol war horse has got it in spades. Run out of ammo? No problem. The M1 was designed from jump street to be a blunt weapon once out of ammo. You can beat the moose to death with it. Lost your boat anchor? No problem, chunk the ol m1 over the side with a rope through one of the 29 attachment points. Happen to run across a beautiful woman on the trail with an eye for a man of fine tastes? Prepare to be dragged back to her cave.

So Mr OP, you can do the lame thing and get some kinda plastic toy 6mm match bullet dart gun or you can get a weapon with a world war victory on its resume.
I don't think a 300 winchester is the same as a 6mm, but I got ya. I'd love a garand or M1A, but Canada isn't fond of semi auto guns.

All this 30 cal and up calibers are making me think my old German 270 Weatherby mag may be too small for moose. Haha. I do have a 358 though. 358 Norma mag. Guess I’ll take it as a backup.

:(

Thats sad. I feel for you. Every free citizen of the world should be issued an M1 Garand, M1A, AR15, or FAL with one can of ammo and a requirement that they shoot it all each year to maintain proficiency.
