They were really good compared to other places I have elk hunted.

There are quite a few blacktops and gravel roads throughout the area. The middle of Oct is generally dry. HWY 82 going to Cloudcroft can be “dicey” when it rains. Generally pleasant up there in the middle of Oct. The monsoons came early so we are “swimming” in the high desert. I don’t see a problem with fire restrictions in 34 as of now. There are some good bulls there but 34 is not known as a trophy unit. If you are doing a DIY hunt I would take whatever animal presented a good shot, but each to his own. The tag is difficult to come by, even for residents.
