Hello all! After years of using this site I finally bit the bullet and joined. I started hunting about 20 years ago in TX where I grew up. Until 2007 whitetail and the occasional dove or quail was really all I hunted. That all changed in 2007 when I moved back to TX from NC. It was then that I started hunting hogs & went on my first elk hunt to CO.
I found immediate success hog hunting, basically while I was also deer hunting. Took me 3 years to get my first cow elk, but I haven't looked back. I usually hunt SW CO public lands with thick timber using a 45-70 with 300gr Barnes TXS handloaded or my 280AI, 308, 300wm or 35 Whelen. I want to explore hunting more open country in the future as I am also a long range target shooter and am comfortable with longer distance shots. I am a meat hunter foremost and exclusively use Barnes bullets due to accuracy, lead free and my own personal success. Only shoot hand loads.
Just bought me some nice optics this year and am about to take the plunge into digiscoping as well. My 12 year old daughter just drew her first cow tag this year as well. It's going to be an exciting hunting season!
