just as the title states, i just got my new limbs for my 2010 gt500, i have to switch out the limbs myself and in doing so of course need to switch the cams. any tips or sage words of advice? i don't have the option of an archery shop and so am doing it on my own, even though i'm slightly intimidated...
do i need any special tool in doing this? will a flat head be adequate for removing/ returning the e clamp?

Hey Quarbles yeah I had to take a look at your location there. I guess you sure are on your own. Is that GT500 an Elite? Do you have a Bow Press? That would be the first step you need to handle first. Bow Press is kind of a must have type piece of gear if your going to be doing your own modifications. You could probably rig something up to get it working. If you want shoot me a PM when your ready to get started and we can walk you through the process and help you throw together some sort of bow press. Without it you run the risk of damaging your bow. Its not as easy as just taking things apart. Your Compound is under 60 to 80 lbs of stress if you go start taking things apart without a bowpress your going to injure yourself and your bow.

Shoot me a PM with your number and we can chat on the phone and I can see if I can assist you.

Bow press and a camera to take a few pics of the cams with the strings on them to make sure you get it put back together right.

Definitely need a bow press. The little portable bowmaster isn't a bad investment to get started vs a traditional press, but it is slow. I'm not sure how handy you are, but there are some DIY presses over on archery talk that can help too. In addition to the pictures, Elite has a good technical section on their website for tuning and other tips.

Some of the Martin bows have limb bolts that are long enough to back out all the way and take the string off, but most companies DO NOT have this feature and a press is needed.

Once you have good reference of the strings and get the strings off. Do all the e clip removal inside a plastic bag. They're a lot easier to find that way, sometimes the slide off easy, sometimes they gain a lot of velocity... A screwdriver likely won't be enough. Using a pliers spread to the width of the e clip works well. You just need the clearance to get around the axle, which a flat edge generally won't provide. It can be done, but pushing with pliers or something with a gap (like an e clip removal tool) makes it much easier.

Pm'ed with Qaurble last night. He has a Bow Press already so he should be good to go. Hes going to keep us posted and if needs additional assistance let us know. =) Think hes all set. Hes got the right path going.
