New Leica Rangefinder-issue w display

I bought the new CRF-R and noticed that the brightness would vary with it. Did some reading and realized that it has a self adjustment feature. The only problem is you can't see the readout with a green or lighter colored backdrop. Do I have a dud or is this a known issue? I'm assuming there's no way to manually adjust it ??
