I just looked and there are common loops on the 4000 that accept the accessory bag perfectly.

Awesome, thanks. A dry bag on the meat shelf is my plan for elk hunting with the 1850 this year, but we’re setting up a spike camp. If I had to access my camping gear daily I think I’d rather have it inside the pack. Not to mention using the meat shelf for gear when bivy camping means you have to make an extra trip if you shoot something.

Really like the looks of the 4000. Any idea if their pack accessory pouch attaches well to the top to be used as a lid?

The accessory pouch hooks to the top or bottom of my 3200 pro alright but the best spot for me is to use the two top outside loops above the small horizontal top pocket then use a compression strap over the bottom portion. I’ve run up to two accessory pouches on my 3200 no issues. I can put a picture on here if you want when I’m on the computer.

Any chance of a review on the 4000? What it fits/what it doesn’t. I like the layout, almost looks like a larger version of the 1850. I know guys typically use the 6000/7200 for 7-10 day trips but I just can’t see needing that much space.

Its really person, gear and season dependent, which is why i think most guys buy the bigger bag. its easy to cinch down empty space. its not so easy to make a bag bigger without strapping half your gear to the outside.

What it fits really depends on what type of gear you have and take and what environmental conditions you will be in.

I tried to take pictures of the layout. I always error on the side of taking the bigger bag and compressing it down verse wishing I had more space.

As always, just call me if you have specific questions about the packs.

Thanks Doug, I might.

I understand the type of gear you carry will have an affect. Obviously saying it fits a tent, sleeping bag, and 10 days worth of food and clothing doesn’t convey much. Just didn’t know if you had a list of what you’ve loaded in it.

The 4000 is mostly my scouting pack. It will fit any two man tent easily, any spotter, tripod, etc. I have put five days and clothes for early season in it with room to spare.

Doug I am curious how well the Ultra 5500 functions without the lid? Does it roll or fold over nice and is the strap short enough to actually close off the top almost like the sky mode on SG packs? I just don't want a ton of fir needles and everything else falling in the bag if I put the lid inside until I need it.

So the 5500 has an expanding shroud, or some call them snow collars. If the pack isn’t stuffed and there was enough of the shroud not being used, I wouldn’t see why you couldn’t roll or fold it over and run it without a lid. The more of the shroud not being used, the better the chance of keeping things out.

Reading their description for the 5200 they specifically say it can be used without the lid. Do you know if the ultra 5500 is setup the same as the 2017/2018 5200 for use without the lid

If you still have this pack in your collection could you tell me the approximate dimensions of the 4000 when stuffed full?
