External poles are one of my favorite features of the Hillebergs for set up in lousy weather. Glad to see somebody else using them.

I'm also a fan of dual side entrances for livability, and that that is the lightest tent I can recall seeing with that design.

It looks like a good tent but what I can't figure out is why Kuiu made a 3 season tent. The market is flooded with ul 3 season tents.

Now if they made good 4 season, lightweight option maybe someone would give hilleberg some more competition.

Regardless it looks like a decent tent, although for the price you could get about any 3 season shelter you want.

And I like Kuiu.

Kuiu if your reading this make me a dermizax nx bivy, keep it around a pound!

I don't own any Kuiu, but I read about their packs and the perception that sometimes the customer is the beta tester. I'd hate to get a new tent and be the guy that figures out it doesn't breath or the zippers tear out. I get nervous on first-year products. Beyond that, I'm interested...

For that price and 3 season I would probably go with the BA Fly Creek 2 platinum. Mainly for the 1lb difference in weight. I do like the side entrances though

I picked up a Hilleberg tent last spring and can say that once you go to an exo-skeleton style tent you may never go back. Kuiu's pole design looks good. I'd like to see the spec sheet. To get lighter most maker usually cut square footage and vestibule size. Is there actually enough floor space for two guys to move around a little? Is there head room to site up? Are the vestibules large enough to be usable?

Also, where are the guy-out points and how many are there?

So what was he saying about it being a 3.5 season tent because of using mesh vs nylon? I don't care if they use pantyhose...my concern is if it'll hold up in 40-50 mph winds. I always error on the side over "over gunned" so I use 4 season tents. I'm looking for a new tent, so if this one will hold up to sustained winds, I don't mind the mesh dome on it.

I agree. The Tarptent StratoSpire 2 I purchased today appears to be bigger, taller, more inclusive and cheaper. Here's what I bought:

1 @ $14.00 103 Substitute pole set for StratoSpire 2


Subtotal: $360.00

Both tents are double walled with mesh, both can be erected in the rain while the tent interior remains dry. Both are a few pounds and go up quickly. Both can be used without the tub floor and/or mess but it doesn't look like you can erect the mesh only as you can with the Stratospire.

I have a 50" height, Kuiu didn't say but I'll betcha it's about 44". My bathtub floor is 86" long, Kuiu says there floor is for a '6" guy (that's 78") and the Kuiu weighs 3lbs, 5 ozs...5.5 ozs more than mine and mine includes the weight of the stakes and cordage which is included in the purchase price. I opted to add the poles so I could use my trekking poles and a seam sealer kit and am still 10% cheaper after paying for the extras, sales tax and shipping. I wanna see some hard specs on this new Kuiu tent and the true cost after it is completely rigged, anchored and shipped. I appears to be a fairly tight 2 man compared to my 2-3 man StratoSpire 2. I can add a third solid wall later if I wish to make it a true 4 season tent and it can easily be configured in a greater variety of ways.

KUIU price and weight includes stakes. Comparing it to a non-free standing tarp tent is apples to oranges.

I wouldn't pay 25% more for a Kuiu but then, I have a problem with Kuiu's recent new product blitz. Sleeping bags, tents, all the while changing their clothing line. Sounds like they are trying to garner sales from fanboys instead of focusing on their base. I could be wrong.

You do realize you don't need a seam sealer kit right? Just go to home depo and buy the silicone and mineral spirits, cost is around $7.

If you re-read my post you'll see I bought Tarptent's $7. Seam sealer kit. It was convenient. Otherwise the tent woulda been just under $400.
