New Kimber Mountain Ascent

12oz heavier than listed on the website. Man that stock on the peak really kinda kills the traditional mountain file look. That's still pretty light for a rifle with a more "long range" style stock.

Their website is very blah now, weights, barrel length, twist rates don't update with cartridge choice.

Hopefully it's a shooter!

Finally had a minute to bond the rail and mount the scope today. I couldn’t find anything but the leupold backcountry rail, not my first choice but we’ll see how it goes. I used Hawkins ultra light tactical rings and a Nightforce 3-10. Should be a bit over 8 lbs once it’s loaded and a spartan adapter on it. I’m happy with that. Really gonna try and shoot it this week. I believe tally makes a rail for kimbers, warne does too but in my experience (this is with a Kimber 8400) the warne and leupold rails were exactly the same thing, same height, same weight when measured and weighed side by side.

Sort of crazy the mountain ascents have bottom metal now rather than the blind mag they had in the past. I just noticed that.

I would have preferred one of the older mountain ascents, but figured I’d try this one out. Several years ago there was a used mountain ascent in 280 ai at sportsman’s that I should have bought. I’d been looking for one for a while, I didn’t need the rifle but wanted it and told them I was gonna think it over. Went back the next day and it was sold. I still kick myself over that one.

I’m on the prowl for a hunter in 280ai myself. I guess a Montana or a mountain ascent would be great too. These new mountain ascents do intrigue me though.
