New Kimber Mountain Ascent 799 bucks

@AKredneck63 you should sell me that Talkeetna to make some room in your stable

Finally got shipping confirmation myself even though I was the first order on this thread...was starting to think I was going to get hosed even after getting all my RS brothers a deal, but we back babyyyy!!!!

That rifle still one of the best deals I’ve gotten on here. I got it chopped down to balance better and threaded with irons drilled and tapped if I ever want to re attach them. I’m 8lbs6oz scoped with a 1-8 illuminated LVPO on it so it’s light for a big bore. I don’t think I’ll be getting rid of that rifle anytime soon. It puts 3 in one ragged hole at 100yds with 300gr Federals. Definitely got lucky on it. It’ll get to go out this year and hopefully drop something with it.

Post some pics!

I had to "settle" on a tricked out Montana in 338 Fed, chopped it at 18 and run it suppressed. It's cool, and orders of magnitude more practical for me in Montana, but that Talkeetna still haunts me

I’m working remote for another month but when I get home I’ll message you some pics of it all done up now. Steven Clake at Denali Arms in Wasilla AK did all the work for me on it. I have him work on all my expensive rifles he does insanely precise and meticulous work. He’s the one who I have work on my Fieldcrafts also and had him rebarrel one to a 35 whelen for me. Just in case any of y'all looking for someone in Alaska to work on your stuff. Thought I had some on my phone but I don’t. It’s insane the price tag they are fetching now for them (talkeetnas).

I think most people here know this, but for anyone that doesn't... unlike Tikka, Kimber makes a long action (84L) and a short action (84M). The .30-06 and 7mm Rem Mags that are on sale are 84L actions, that's why they are heavier; the 6.5CM, .308 Win, etc. are 84M actions. The 84M and 84L actions are not interchangeable with respect to aftermarket stocks, etc. Just FYI.

Actually 3 actions. 84M is your short action 6.5,308,etc 84L is long action your 30-06,270,etc and then 8400 is your magnums 7mm,300wm,375 etc. The 8400 action has a fatter swell at the mag box to allow for the larger capacity due to larger cases. This for some is an issue due to the width and also is what contributes to the extra weight gain over the 84L

What length did you cut it down to? I have one and thought about 20” threaded to put a can on it. Mine is crazy accurate with 285gr and it’s a fun gun to slam animals into the ground.

Thank you for the clarification. I was never real clear on where the 8400 actions fit in... probably because I was never in the market for a lightweight magnum.

I was just trying to help people avoid the issue of buying an 84L (or 8400) and then being disappointed down the road when it's not compatible with an 84M RokStok Lite, for example...

I have a 16" .308 Montana that I like. I just bought one of these 6.5CM that are on sale with the intention of rebarreling to a 16" 6CM. I think that will be pretty sweet. I'll probably put it in my Montana stock until something with better ergos becomes available. Boy oh boy, a 2-8x36 S2H scope would be pretty nice on a setup like that... just sayin!
