Jig,
Not meaning this personal, just using your post as an example to address a couple of things that people believe that get posted quite a bit.
High BC bullets work just as well inside 600 as they do past 600. Wind drift is the issue when shooting, not drop.
Bullets do not "go to sleep". They are either stabilized or they are not.
Again wind drift is the issue, not drop.
Kinetic energy is not a wounding mechanism. Bullet construction and impact velocity are what controls wound channels and tissue destruction.
A 22in barreled 300WM will push a Berger 215gr to somewhere between 2,700-2,800fps. At 2,700fps the 215gr Berger beats the 150gr SGK at 3,500fos in drift from 50yds out. Correcting for drop is but a button press and turret spin away. Correcting for drift is at best an approximation.
With the advent of reliable laser rangefinders and reliable scopes, anything to reduce wind drift will result in more hits than worrying about drop.

My point is that to really take advantage of the high BC on the particular Berger he wants to shoot you need to be shooting past 600yds.

These VLD and Hybrid bullets don't really stabilize and shine until you are getting "out there".

Inside of that the BC of that bullet isnt going to matter as much (as compared to a lighter 30cal bullet with a lower BC).
Again wind drift is the issue, not drop.
And when your shooting game at 600yds+ you want to be delivering ethical amounts of kinetic energy.
Kinetic energy is not a wounding mechanism. Bullet construction and impact velocity are what controls wound channels and tissue destruction.
For inside of 600yds a 22in barrel with a slower twist rate could really push lighter bullets fast and hard with less bullet drop. And deliver devastating effects on game. We hammer white tail deer here in PA with short barrel 300WSM's with 1:13 twists and 150g Gamekings going 3500fps. Talk about "planting them"...
