Congratulations and you should start taking the little guy along this fall on shorter day hunts. I had my 6 month old son in my daypack archery elk hunting and had a great time with him. Even saw some elk! Then the next year he was beside me when I shot a doe whitetail. The following year he came with and went antelope and deer hunting with me and a buddy. Had a great time. Hardest part was to get him to whisper and not talk so much! It was great fun.

If you don't have a .22 rifle of your own that you want to hand down to the little guy, purchase one now and set it aside. CZ makes a great .22 bolt action rifle. I have one and love it.
