I wish FL or Kenetrek made their gaiters in dry earth color. I tried the Cabelas guide gaiters and they were very loud and fitted very loose. I gave them to my Dad since he is a lot bigger than I am. I just want something to keep the legs of my pants from getting wet when going through tall grass. Holding up to post holing in deep snow would be an added bonus.

I wish they did too, hopefully they will someday. Any of the gaiters in that review will be awesome for you besides not being dry earth.

Great review! When I started wearing gaiters my choices were OR's and Kenetreks. The OR's are noisier but won out due to the fact that they went over all my laces on my Kenetreks. Great to see more options! I like the looks of the First Lites but the high bottoms would be a disqualification for me.

OR actually has coyote brown ones.
I've used a pair of kenetrek hunting gaiters for a couple seasons, they've kept me dry but also start to sag down over time. The nylon strap gets only so tight before it starts to fold and makes it hard to buckle.
Large section of Velcro makes them extremely noisy to take off, a zipper and a few snaps down the side would be much better.

Didn't OR stop selling the Crocodiles in CB?

I think my local army navy store had them not long ago. I could be wrong though. I bet someone has a pair they'd sell if you really wanted some.

Thanks for the review and the heads-up. I really like gaiters but I almost never wear them anymore. The main reason is their noise factor combined with spot-stalk hunting with a short-range weapon (longbow). I can put up with a tiny bit of noise but the harder fabrics are just too slap-happy in low brush. I wish I could go back ten years and buy more of the Cabela's Gore-Tex Fleece gaiters. They are/were super quiet and had about every feature a guy could want. I have one pair of them in loden green and I use them still, but they won't last forever.

I have a pair of Rivers West fleece gaitors that are pretty quiet and waterproof. Wore them for a few years before getting Kuiu Yukon gaitors, and yes they are noisier. Unfortunately I don't think RW still make the gaitors, I just checked the website, Cascade Direct, and they are not shown.

The camo Kenetrek gaiters are definitely the quietest gaiter I tested and would probably be the best option in that regard.

Just a heads up, I saw a handful of coyote brown OR crocodiles today at army navy.

Maybe I could see about modifying them, surprised actually they don't have that super thin gel like rubber like some softshell bottom have for not slipping around the top.
Definitely quiet tho.

Schnee's in Bozeman used to make a really good set of gaiters that had a microfleece outer. What size do you wear? I think I have a pair that are still in really good shape if you're interested.
