Nothing special here lol just trying to get outta state and do some hunting like the rest of us
Since you are new....FYI there is a lot of info in the different sections if you use the search feature. Its frowned on to discuss exact unit in open forums.

I'm a CA res and have been hunting all of the western states for many decades. That has become progressively more and more difficult with the huge demand for western game. In many states it now will be 20years plus of applications to draw a top elk tag. It's bleak but a guy can develop a strategy to get some good general tags within a few years.

I think the best strategy for a new guy like yourself is to spend a few bucks and subscribe to one of the many services that give you a state by state breakdown. Those go into how they do their applications, draw odds, etc. Some of those go into specifics on each unit. Go Hunt, Huntin Fool, Epic and a few others do this.

You can go to each states G&F site for free and plow through hunt odds, success stats etc and calc it out for yourself- but warning that will take many hours and you still might not get a good picture.

For example-NV squares your bonus points....so you increase your odds the longer you apply- right? Nope, I have 23 points in NV....and that gets me a 1/2 of one percent chance of drawing one of the top 5 elk units.

Moose, Mountain goat, sheep- in some states you literally have odds comparable to winning the Lotto [not quite but its long odds]

It's not as bleak as that^ sounds....but you have to spend some time and develop a LT plan.
