So my trusty cabelas lamp just took a shit after 4 years of use. I need another lamp that has decent throw to it, 160 minimum on the lumens. What are you guys running?

Fenix HL30 (AA) without crossing headstrap (older model that I still use every day)
and
Zebralight AA model. I can't keep up with the model numbers.

I just ordered a new light. One consideration I gave was on the battery used. I have a great hand held browning light that I take in my pack most of the time, that uses lithium 123 batteries. I decided to get something that took the same batteries, so I have the same type in my pack for both. I ended up ordering a Princeton tec apex pro with a green led. It has 260 lumens max. Having a green or red led was also something I wanted, so I can use before daylight without loosing my night vision. Haven't received it so I can't comment on durability etc. The other light I looked at is the Petzl Myo RXP. It has over 160 lumens. It takes AA batteries which is fine most of the time. I know people that have it and it works for them. You can lock it so it doesn't turn on in your pack, which is a nice feature.

I haven't personally used the Fenix or Zebralight either but a lot of people seem to be using them and recommending them, like above so they would be something to take a hard look at. There are a number of good companies out there obviously. I decided to simplify and choose between a Princeton Tec or a Petzl but I was spending too much time looking and decided to narrow the search somehow to speed up the process.

about a quarter turn counter clockwise on the battery cap and it won't accidentally turn on when stored
Yep as Lostarra stated. I just make it a habit to unscrew the battery clock a bit before throwing it in the pack. Quick easy solution. I use the AA version and the 18650 versions. Love them.

Easy fix, unscrew the battery cap a half turn or so and it can't turn on. This has worked for me for a few years now.

I prefer the lights that provide blue, green and/or red LEDs in addition to white light. For hiking out I prefer to use a colored light. Easier on the eyes, doesn't attract bugs and doesn't blind my partner.

Ive had a Black Diamond Spot for the past year. I dont put mine through much abuse, as I generally use it walking to and from my treestand or blind. I have no higher end lamps to compare to as this is my first one that isnt a $12 WalMart special, but I like it. Its fairly bright, has spot and flood mode, I like that it turns on and off with just one click (rather than having to click through 5 different "modes" before it shuts off), has a battery power gauge on the side, and locks so it doesnt turn on in your pack.
