Been lurking for a while after being invited on a Colorado Elk hunt in October. Hours and hours of reading are in my future since I don't know what I don't know. What I DO know is that it is a different ballgame than chasing a 150" 8 point Georgia whitetail!

Hey Falcon - congrats on the first time Colorado hunt. I still remember my first trip from Pa to Wyoming in 1984 like it was yesterday. If this is your first time to the Rockies your in for a real treat. Wide open spaces - elevations, distances, steepness etc. Biggest difference from eastern hunting is physicality - the animals don't live in a 2 or three mile radius -they move across big distances. Elevation will always be a headwind making breathing and physical activity a chore, and covering ground will increase success ratios. Be in the best shape time will allow. Careful - it can be addicting, Ive been heading out almost every year since 84 - Good luck

Welcome! What part of Co are you hunting?
First rifle in Unit 231. Going with some buddies from work that live out that way and know a hell of a lot more about Elk than I do. We talk a lot and they will be scouting and sharing intel with me leading up to the hunt. They all went for the draw for a cow tag and I'm the only one that put in for a bull tag.

Thank you I am very excited about it. I have begun my workout routine during stay at home walking a few miles on an inclined treadmill and stop drinking as much beer to lose the gut. Before long I am going to decide on a pack and add that in to my walks. I also plan to go to the north Georgia mountains and do some hiking, but I know full well that doesn't come close to the elevations out west.

What part of GA you coming from? I grew up in Bartow, Floyd, and Paulding counties.
I grew up in Marietta and now live farther north away from Atlanta in Cherokee county. My wife and I bought our first house here in 2012 and we are looking at getting farther out in the next few years. Brother in law lives in Paulding.
