Looks like Federal announced a 6.5 PRC 140 grain terminal ascent offering. Anyone know if this will be replace the 130grain offering or when it may be readily available?

I always thought it was strange they started with 130gr for the PRC.

I’m looking to compare it to precision hunters for a new rifle and am wondering the difference on terminal ballistics between the 130gr. Mostly to give me some more warm and fuzzies for elk since I didn’t go with a bigger cartridge.

I used the 130 TA for a season on deer. They seemed to pencil through but all ended in dead deer. I switched to 140gr tipped fusion for my elk and it did awesome.

TA is just too hard if a bullet for me.

What were the distances think they were going to fast or slow?

All within 200 yards.

It’s just a 95+% retention bullet. It was doing what it was designed to do. I like a little explosion.

Again all deer died. But here in southeast a deer running 100 yards can put it in some gnarly stuff.

Thanks for the info I’m thinking slightly different result on bigger animals.

If you search around you’ll find a few threads relating to the terminal ascents. The general consensus is usually that they are a fairly hard bullet with narrow wound channels.

No personal experience with the TA, but have a bunch with the trophy bonded tips which are extremely similar. They hold weight and penetrate deep, but generally narrow wounds. They still kill, but my preference is a little more destruction.

These are 160grs from a 7mag impact velocity of 2400ish on a cow elk. Hard quartering away shot, penetrated parallel from rear ribs up to front shoulder area. 75424881351__E6725D4D-04A1-4F54-A85F-BB6CE03FF27A.jpeg

I've had good luck with TA. ~ 6 animals now. Most DRT. One ran 75 yards > but it was a meat saver shot. I don't think this bullet, d/t lack of fragments, excels with meat saver shots. All mid shoulder shots DRT. I like the idea of fragmenting bullets but not a fan of the meat loss. Prior to TA I used Barnes TTSX. 16 animals with those. Worked well no complaints. Predominantly meat saver shots. Most ran 100 yards or less with a few bang flops as well. These days I go for mid shoulder. I prefer to anchor quickly. I get some meat loss but not much d/t 90-95%+ weight retention. Hammer bullets are intriguing but I haven't worked up a load yet.
