New Exodus Test

Just saw this new Exodus test on Archery Talk; it's not mine, but it was done very well.

I've written about a hundred posts on the Exodus over the past two years--22 animals in three nations with them so far, and it has always performed flawlessly.

This test further demonstrated why it has earned top spot in my quiver.

I'll be taking them with me on my first backcountry elk hunt. I was gonna run the Ulmer Edge but decided to take the time and tune my bow and now I have em spot on out to 60 yards. Was very impressed with the test results!

One thing I do with my heads, is I cover the silver blades with a black Sharpie. I really don't like the sun glare, especially where it can shine for miles in the backcountry. I know the quiver masks the ones inside, but once the arrow is nocked, it can really shine--especially the Full models.

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely garb the Sharpie.

They look good but i dont like how they didnt punch through that bone... I think a two blade like a strickland would have punched through it..

Not many heads would. Strikland and vpa are the only ones that come to mind. I beleive that the exodus are the best replaceable blade head out there. Vpa is the best one piece. The solid 125 Vpa are indestructible.

I was just shooting these out to long distance. They were right with my field points out to 80 yds.. I was impressed!

when i get time i will shoot them out to 100 yards and see what happens. my schedule is crazy busy right now and my elk season starts is 11 days but i will try and get it done no later then this coming weekend

that kudu head looks just like the strickland head i really don't think it would have made it through that bone, the VPA looks interesting, it looks like a montec just solid, i would love to see if those would hold up but still don't think it would make it through that leg bone. remember i was shooting the knuckle of the bone which on those bones is somewhere around 4" thick. with that said i would love to try find one that would make it through that bone or better yet make it through the wheel.

Bone is a difficult test to make valid comparisons from. There have varying degrees of thickness, strength, and curvature.

i agree, but its fun to try.
I should have added to this to the video, that when i tuned all the heads to my arrows everyone of them spun perfect. this might not seem like a big deal to some people but i have always squared the end of my arrows and with most heads (i have tried) i have still had to tweak them a little or had to switch arrows or replace chisel tips or move blades around but not with these heads everyone spun perfect. i also weighed everyone of them (i had 15 before this test) and they all weighed the exact same on my scale 123.5G

I am in the middle of testing two blade heads. I will post the video up when I get it done. I am going to test the solid , GK silver flame, helix and vpa two blades. I might throw in a few more heads for fun. I have some cool test planned with both bone and gel. Also I am going to shoot them into some solid steel plate and see which ones roll the tip and which ones don't.

Makes me glad those are what I'm shooting. Very impressive. Good thing there's no steel wheels in moose camp!

I shot the following broadheads into a virgin Rhinehart 18 today to see how they compared penetration-wise.



I compared these 100gr heads:

Woodsman Elite
Slick Trick Magnum
G5 Striker
G5 Montec
QAD Exodus Full
QAD Exodus Swept



On the first round all the arrows penetrated about the same with the slightest difference.



In order of deepest penetration they came outta the target in this order:

Exodus Swept
Slick Trick Magnum
Woodsman Elite
Exodus Full
G5 Montec
G5 Striker

But the Exodus Full collided with the Woodsman Elite in the target doing damage to two of the blades.



I replaced the Exodus Full broadhead and shot again…this time flipping the target over and shooting another virgin side.



On this round the arrows were still all pretty comparable in penetration; none did significantly better than the rest.



In order of deepest penetration they came outta the target in this order:

Exodus Full
Exodus Swept
G5 Montec
G5 Striker
Woodsman Elite
Slick Trick Magnum



All the broadheads used in this test were brand new, unsharpened and right outta the package. The Exodus Swept drew blood but that may have more to do with the way they are packaged than the blades themselves but they did “seem” the sharpest to me. But the damage to the one Exodus head surprised me. Glad the blades are replaceable.

So based on this completely unscientific and arbitrary test, all these broadheads performed about the same when entering a target of uniform density. They all flew accurately and none lacked any punch. I guess this simple experiment was inconclusive.

Thanks for the test, Bruce. I wouldn't be surprised about the Exodus blade damage when colliding with another steel head. Tips are designed to open up a hole that the blades then further cut thru. When the blade hits another steel medium directly like that, without the tip hitting first, that's pretty much what is expected to happen.
