New Bird Dog

Yeah they do have a lot of german import blood in the No Mar dogs. He is a hard charging dog for sure. It's been fun!

Yeah I’ve never seen a DK in Alaska, however there are a lot of DD they are probably the most popular dog up here. We have a few good breeders so they are very popular up here.

My lab will go on point if a pheasant stays still. I never trained him to do that. All instinct

Few pics from the end of our season!

First picture is my older dog Grace. She’ll be 6 in a few weeks. The pup was born back in January. I grew up with GSP’s, dad bought a finished dog around the time I was born and got into training them himself after that. Grace is actually a GSP/GWP accidental breeding but is just a stud in the field. She’s the first dog that I don’t really try to structure the hunt around. I just let her loose and try to follow close. We spent about 40 days afield this year but I’m hoping to do even more this fall. Strongly considered giving up deer hunting for a while just to hunt with her more.

So this past year I got my first bird dog since growing up with them! Been a fun experience training and learning. So far we have hunted about 25 days this year. Still going to try to get out another handful in March. All wild birds! He is doing a good job covering country and holding points. View attachment 156102View attachment 156103

Awesome first year and great looking dog!! How old was he when you first started taking him into the high country?

I just got my first bird dog pup a little over a month ago. My September elk plans didn’t pan out but I have a small game license for CO. Those ptarmigan pics are getting me all excited. May try to get her up there this year just for kicks.

Here’s my little GWP pup. Training has been a blast.

he was born in August so he was exactly 1 year old when I took him out.

What advice would those who have had GSP have for a potential first time buyer of a GSP. We are looking at the breed, but just want to make sure we have all the information to make the right choice when it comes to pup selection. How do your dogs do during the day at work? What are your exercise regimes like with your dogs. Are your dogs mellow in the house?

Those Germans sure do know how to make a dog. I lived there for a few years and hunted heavily over alot of breads. My eyes are always attracked back to the DK's and DD's. I tent to lean more for the DD's though.. you yall have some great looking hunds!

My 8 year old GSP looks almost identical to the Ops! Great dogs.
