I'm in the market for some new binoculars. I currently have a couple of pairs of pentax bino's, but I'm wanting something better. I have a friend that has the new leica HD B's and another that has the meopta HD's, and looking through mine then through theirs was ridiculous. Anyway, what do you guys recommend for some new high end bino's? I'm not worried about the price, I just want something good.
I live in Oklahoma, but travel to Colorado elk, mule deer, bear and lion hunting. I also have a coues deer hunt in Mexico next month.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

lots of Swaro close outs this year. 10x42 and 10x42 El around 2K I saw some SLC for $1550 10x42. I gabbed some 12x50 el's and call them God's eyes, I feel like I can see everything. Have seen the Leica's closed out as well, not a big fan of there warranty.

I would recommend that you try to use some Zeiss HTs and compare them to Swarv in real hunting conditions.
I have a set of the new 10x42 HT and they are amazing in low light, overcast conditions, IE brown bear hunting!!!

I figured the swaro's would be the ones to get. I didn't know if there was any other ones that were comparable with them.
I thought about getting the HD-B's since they're the same weight as the swaro's and the rangefinder would come in handy sometimes. I already have a vectronix terrapin and a G7 BR2 rangefinder though. Whats the difference between the swarovski el's and slc's?

Whats the difference between the swarovski el's and slc's?

The ELs have the open hinge design, and the SLCs have the traditional hinge. The SLCs also do not have the Swarovision lenses with field flatteners. Other than that, Im not sure what the difference is..I'm sure someone else can help out.

As far as which binos to get, if price is not a factor, then you are probably in the market for something like Swarovski, Zeiss, or Leica. I asked a question about these three not too long ago and was told that the optical differences were so small that I probably wouldnt tell much of a difference if at all, so it really came down to ergonomics. I played around with all of them and landed on the Swarovski ELs. I prefer the open bridge hinge, and the only two that had that were the Swaros and the Zeiss. The swarovskis also just felt better in my hand and I liked the diopter focus on it better as well.

There's a great price on some SLC HDs 10x42 in the classified. $ may not be an object, but is you can save a few bills why not?

Some people don't like the field flatteners on the EL's so it is worth it to look through some first. Like cornfedkiller said, with no price holding you back, look through the best. Swaro, Zeiss and Leica. You wont be able to make a wrong choice with those as long as you prefer them. I've always heard great things about swaro customer service and while i haven't had experience with the other 2, I have heard mixed reviews.

what size are you looking for?

I tried out Swaro 8.5x42 EL, Zeiss 10x42 HT, Zeiss 10x54 HT and Razor 10x50 HD, all in low light. Based on reading all the posts on this site, I thought I was going to prefer the Swaro ELs, but that was not the case for my eyes (I guess we all see differently). My favorite of the four was the Zeiss 10x54 HTs. They were awesome, but fairly big and heavy. My second favorite was the Zeiss 10x42 HTs. Obviously, they were not as bright as the 54s, but brighter than the Swaros. Also, for my eyes, the Zeiss were easier to look through than the Swaros. The Vortex were great as well, but I still preferred the Zeiss.

Dhughes,
Some good deals out there on the Zeiss Victory HD RF in 8X45 and 10X45. I agree with kellytc45 that haveing the ranging abilty in one PKG is sweet. These are a tad heavy at 35 oz. but the warenty is better than the Leica. I got my 8X45s from ReadHawk Rifles at a superprice!
Nothing wrong with the others...comes down to taste. LagrizView attachment 33576
