Just pursuing the various classifieds. Lots of 10X42 ELs for sale. Which I get. But also tons of 15X56 SLCs. Which I find a little more confusing.

You're seeing guys selling the 15x56 for the 14x52 NL Pures. Good time to be in the market for the SLC.
This is true.

Getting the SLC is a way to check out the magnification portion, see if you like it.

Also, there is nothing wrong with the 15SLC. Buying used, there are three models. The newest is the one you want.

There are a few more 12EL showing up, but they are much more rare.

Would be a very good choice considering what you can get a good used pair for. Especially since you are still sorting out what really fits your individual needs. If you decide they aren't what you want you can get most or all of your money back.
Just don't look through nl pures and you will be very happy!

There are several pair of 12 NL’s over on cousewhitetail, but you’re saying 12 EL? That’s a discontinued model??

How do you tell which is the newest model?

The SLC, EL, and NL pure are different models. I don’t really know all the differences, but you can get the model number before you pick it up and call Swarovski. You can get info for it.

Before the NL, the best 12x was the 12EL model.

There are older 8, 10 and 12 SLC models out there I think.

There have been some changes to the models, but I think anything in the last 4 or 5 years is the newest.

I’m clear. I didn’t see 12x el listed on Swarovskis website. Just thought maybe it was a discontinued model.

I seem to be changing my optics every year or two, so I've had a chance to get behind several different setups. this last season, my primary setup that I used all October for my buck/bull hunt I was running the Revic BLR10B range finding binos and my Kowa 77 spotter. I had my Kestrel 5700 with me for longer shot opportunities where I needed to verify a wind call. The Revics were new to me last summer as I was looking for a faster option for glassing/ranging and landed on the Revics over other options out there. Prior to those, I was running NL Pure 10x42's and the Sig Kilo8k range finder. As far as glass clarity, it's tough to beat the NL pures with anything on the market. It was definitely a big difference in glass clarity and light transmission between the NL's and the Revics. But with that said, it was also very noticeable the ranging ability of the Revic's vs the Sig kilo8k. Revic's range faster and seem to be more consistent in rain/snow/fog than the Sig8k. The app that pairs with each device was also a big factor to me as well. Relic did an outstanding job on their app compared to the sig app. The downside of the Revic's for me was the glass clarity. Although they were really good, even when compared to something like a vortex Razor 10x42, they still left me wanting more clarity and light transmission.

Over the last 5 years, Ive hunted with Ziess conquest 10x42, Vortex Razor 10x42, Ziess Conquest 15x56 binos, Swaro NL pure binos, Revic 10x42 binos, Swaro ATS65mm spotter(straight), Vortex Razor 13-39 spotter, and the Kowa 77 spotter. (All of these optics were mounted to a tripod while glassing out in the field)

Of those options the NL pures are by far the best quality binocular I've used, the Kowa 77 was best spotter ive used and the Revics were a better rangefinder than the Sig kilo8k.

That's kind of a muddled list of details, but hope it helps in your decision making/setup.

I have followed a similar path, using lots of binos. Almost anything is usable, there are hunters killing with basic binos.

Problem comes when you get behind alpha glass and see it. It’s hard to go back. We can make compromises when it comes to a tool that the primary purpose is ranging and ballistics, but we recognize it. If Swaro actually got a good rangefinder in the 10 and 12 EL Range, that would be amazing…

Ultimately, It’s why I intend to save for the 14 NL Pures.
