New big agnes shelter

looks like a one man castle, but I would be a little concerned about how high off the ground those eves are in the wind, especially a wind driven rain.

That tent seems like a good design. Downfall is you need a 14'x8' are to set it up. That can be difficult to find in many areas.

Very good point Doug. I think thats about the same size footprint as a sawtooth. I really like the idea for trips with the wife and dog.

That thing is pretty cool. That is an impressive weight.

Without the nest, you could probably set it up on some pretty uneven ground.

I was thinking the same as you guys. I am still unsure about going floorless. With that setup you could utilize a stove, keep your weight down, and still have a floored sleep area.

The downside to a stove is there is only one way in and one way out. You wont be able to feed the stove from inside the tent because it would get in the way for getting in and out of the tent. I personally wouldn't be using this shelter in temperatures where I would need a stove for warmth but more for a means of drying gear. With that being said and how quickly gear drys I think having the stove setup a little ways a way from the tent would be a descent idea. Keep a fire going long enough to dry gear on wet days and maybe for some warmth in the mornings.

I saw this tent about a month ago on big Agnes/promotive page. I'm thinking of picking one up when the tax return cometh in.

I Just realized that the nest doesn't come out. At first I thought it would and this would be a really versatile setup. With the nest being sown in, it takes away a lot of options. Bummer.
