New 6mm GT

6GT has been really easy to load for. Tikka/krieger/mdt shoots 109 bergers way under half MOA consistently. As currently equipped it’s about 22# 109 lrht 2940 fpsIMG_0062.jpeg

I think full customs have their place (especially for production class competition) but it’s pretty easy to assemble one yourself once you gather the components. Shopping around and checking the classifieds for the parts would save you some serious money.

Couple of guys have mentioned semi custom, thats the route I would go. And since its rokslide and everyone has a spare tikka laying around, I think you can pick up an acc elite from mdt for 40% off right now for a tikka. If you wanna go with a rem 700 clone I would shop around and find deals, There are plenty out there. I shoot a 6.5 creed and 6bra, but I know a lot of guys shooting the gt and love it.

I have a couple of mid 1990s to early 2000s Remington 700s laying around. Would that even be a platform worth considering? Could I still shoot in the production class in the PRS, or should I just build it and shoot in an “open” class?

Production class in the PRS is for sponsors, not new shooters. Id just shoot whatever class you fall in. It really dosnt matter for someone just starting.

You can build one of your rem 700s. But if your going to shoot a fair amount your probably better off with going to an action that is more reliable without a bunch of work and can take prefits.

I’m still shooting the same tikka action I started with 8000 rounds ago.

Is everyone going with a 7.5 twist or is 8 plenty? Reason I ask is I'm having some put together soon for family members and probably myself while Im at it and Lilja has 1-8 in stock. These will also likely all be 18" barrels so my velocity will be a little slower than those with 26" barrels obviously. I don't mind for a second to place an order if 7.5 is preferred though especially with some of the new bullets coming out. I would feel pretty silly not having enough twist for some bullets when I have full control over what to order. 8 was/is just tempting setting there ready to go is all. Thanks

I think 1:8 is fine and at 18”, it might not be as slow as you think. I’m getting 2800fps with a 20” and 108gr ELDMs with a relatively mild load of Varget. I’m going shorter when I rebarrel.

Depending on the altitude you are planning to shoot at, and how long of a bullet you want to shoot, I would go 7 twist in a GT. Running 115 DTAC in a 26" 243 Ackley I was losing bc with an 8 twist at around 1000' asl and colder temps. At 10 degrees Fahrenheit I had some crazy stuff happen in wind due to stability issues.

All my barrels for the mid-size to little 6mm cartridges are 1:7".
