*new* 4 blade - 100% machined broadhead - vpa like

I think you just lay them flat like the VPAs; at least that is what they said when I looked at them. I had same question.

Ok. Pics didn't look like the tip lined up. Probably just the view through my phone, thanks.

That blade angle doesn't make sense to me, it would be 45 degree - would it not?

Per website:

Each broadhead’s blades are .040 inches thick and are grounded to a 45 degree angle to keep it sharper longer and provide a large blood trail. The broadhead is heat treated to a Rockwell 45, and then coated in a black oxide finish giving it a slick and stylish look.

I think most BH's are ground to a 20-25 degree angle. When the 3 blade COC are ground to 30 degrees they feel dull by comparison. Grinding a BH to 45 degrees (think about it, that's a compound 90 degree angle - L), I cannot imaging them being sharp enough to illicit confidence.

I might have to buy 3 and test them and sharping. I agree, seems awful steep. The guys in the shop I was in said they have been slaying pigs with them with good results.

I like the idea, not sure how they could be sharpened with a regular stone. Sure as heck not buying Spot Hoggs "special" stone just to sharpen a broadhead.

Anybody using them?

It says they are milled from 1" round bar stock. Would that imply that the head is less then 1" diameter? Or am I figuring it wrong?

Since the blades can't be removed to sharpen, can anyone think of another way to resharpen them other then a hand held pull through type sharpener?

I'll be stopping by Straight Six tonight and will take a look at these and think about buying a pack with a gift certificate I have.

I went to Straight Six last week and checked them out. I like the small profile, and that they are one-piece. They look like good, tough heads. Like others have mentioned, sharpening is the main issue. Dave said TOTA is coming out with a sharpener soon. Makes me wonder if a basic pull-through sharpener or crock sticks would work, or if the angle would be wrong.

I actually switched to VPA's this year to get away from that compact design. Not huge fan of the short, steep angled blades.
