Howa released their Superlite in 16.25” threaded barrels.

Still the same cartridges, 243, 6.5 creed, 7-08, and 308.

Didn’t Form test one and it failed to feed and had trigger issues?
He did. I have personally seen more than a dozen brand new Howa, never saw anything like that. Maybe it is specific to the ultralight. His reviews are a data point.

Similar stuff with the Howa mini.

Bottom plastic, and plastic low level mags.

Aftermarket aluminum hinged floor plate solves all of it. Annoying you have to buy it separate, but it’s a price point buy.

The aftermarket bottom metals that use factory mags solves accuracy (action torquing) stuff, but still contend with not the highest quality mags.

That said, my mini in .223 feeds and extracts flawlessly even with 2.4”coal cartridges. Across hundreds of rounds now.

I have a 6ARC I’ll use same metal (Jefferson out doors) and expect same result.

The superlite is going to need the same aftermarket support, though I expect someone will develop aics metal for it too.

I also haven’t had any issues with the mags feeding(the mags themselves). It’s the bottom plastic that’s the issue

So these are around $1000
Curious what weight would I be to pick up a Lite model Tikka in 6.5CM and have it chopped to 16”?
I assume it would be very similar in price and likely less potential for issues.

I say that and I have a Tikka in 223 as a trainer.

My goal is a sub 7.5 lb rifle all in
I have a S&B Klassic &TBAC U7.
Just need to find a rifle and ring set up to get me there. I want a 90Gr to 147gr bullet to take me to 500 yards. Ammo has to be factory with some form of mid price practice option available

Tried to accomplish this with a Howa barreled action from brownells in. Stocky Carbon VG Trij huron 3x9 and I am still over weight.

The superlite will get you there on weight, but you will need to spend money on bottom metal.

I am into my second mini right now, and if I lived further west I might buy a superlite to get a little more horsepower and leave weight to be made up in optic and suppressor.

The superlite in the stockys carbon stock is under 5lbs.

I saw DIP had super light bottom metal at SHOT.

Did you try the Superlight action? You won’t get there with the standard Howa action. It’s a pig.

The Howa 16.5 is like 4.5 pounds with the Stocky’s carbon fiber hunter stock and the pic rail.

8tw 243 would’ve been sweet. 10tw seems a little dated these days
My thoughts exactly.

@RWT yeah, the mini is lighter but not enough. I am going to try to lighten mine up some.

I think the Superlight are a bit lighter than the mini. Add the weight of rings and scope to 4.5 pounds and see if it gets you there.

I have two Howa Minis and both exhibit the same trigger issue when cycled quickly. One does it reliably, the other only on occasion.
