Stock insoles are always pretty bad.

Went the way of super feet green and in 2 boots (Salomon and Crispi) they push my heel up higher than what seems like the boots actual heel cup.

Leads to slight hotspots that can be handled with leukotape, but that's not an ideal fit/fix. For reference, I did not get thar hotspot in either boot until I put the superfeet in.

Any recommendations on a lower volume/lower heel height aftermarket insole.

I like the super feet, aside from that one complaint.

I threw all my super feet and sole inserts away, went with lathrop.

Any chance the lathrops felts lower profile? I know everyone's feet are different, I guess I have a high heel, but these superfeet have got to go.

Superfeet make lower volume insoles that are specifically made to go into gortex lined boots that will not chew through the waterproof membrane like the greens/blues, the guides and trailblazers.

I was under the impression that the superfeet green and orange were the only ones suggested by boot manufacturers to be used with gore-tex liners?

The volume in the front is perfect, it's just the heel that is too high for me

The green and orange have hard/sharper plastic edges around the heel, it says on superfeet's FAQs that they suggest the trailblazer, the heel is rounded more and made out of a different material. It is the heel in these that isn't quite as high volume as the green. Worth a shot, order through amazon prime if member and if they don't work, send them back free. I am talking from experience with the greens eating through a liner. I never thought about it until I had a set wear through a gortex liner, then started doing some research and it is a common problem. I'm sure plenty of people run them without issue, but with how much I put into my boots, I won't be running any but what superfeet suggests for waterproof boots.

I am running the Superfeet Guide insoles in my Scarpa Kinesis boots. They are very comfortable and seem to cup my heel well without raising it. They are the recommended insole for the Goretex lined boots. No sharp edges to wear out the liner.

Yes, the Lathrops are a lower profile than Superfeet. I've thrown my SF greens out and all I use are Lathrop now

I have Green's and some Lathrop's. Prefer the Lathrop's, the heel is definitely lower than the Green's. Both are a huge improvement over what comes in a $275 boot, which is frustrating.

bear's repeating: EVERYONES' FEET ARE DIFFERENT, SOME BOOTS FIT RIGHT AND SOME DON'T - LATHROP'S IS A CUSTOM MADE TO THE INDIVIDUAL'S FOOT PRODUCT, SPENDY BUT HARDLY A FAIR COMPARISON TO SUPERFEET INSOLES

Thanks fellas, for the inputs. The folks at Lathrop seem to think the superfeet heels will not fit all boots correctly, potentially causing the heel to be out of the pocket and blistering, due to dif width/shape of boots and that is the selling point of their custom insoles.

But for $100 for non custom insoles that they basically just trim for my boot shape, I think I may take a hard look at the SOLE Heat moldable. Seems like a heat mold with a lower volume insole may be a way to get that near perfect fit in boots without paying hundred of $$ for the custom mapping process.

Will post my result, in Hope's it can help someone down the road.

I predict you won't like 'em and then own them - for $50 more you get a more solid guarantee from a proven product/seller

Lathrops are only 53 and change unless you want them to cut to your boot. I almost pulled the trigger on them but the 15 dollars for shipping a pair of insoles has got me looking for another option. May look at the SOLE brand as well.

I would want them to cut them for my boot. To be sure that the heel of the insole is seated properly. I dont see how with all dif widths of boots thar the heel would be the same on all...and it's tough to know what the right fit is.

Thays why I was leaning towards the heat molded..that way i know for a fact the heel is molded to my foot, as well as seated in the boot correctly. Just my thoughts, but I'm wrong often.

I had the same problem with my heel slipping out with after market inserts. I bought some Crispi Thors, and never had heel slippage even with custom inserts (green super feet, vasyli dananberg). I was really happy with that result, since I had fought that for a while with other boots.
