Looking to spend some money on some binos have roughly a grand to spend But would rather spend 500-700. Hunted all my life but just getting into the western style hunting did my first trip this year. I have 10x42’s vortex’s. I would like to get some 15x56. Would my Money be better spent getting a high quality pair of 12x50s and a tripod or getting the 15x56?

whether you get the 12x50s or 15x56s you will definitely need a good tripod to be effective with them. Personally, I feel I can see better with 8x42 handheld than with 12x50s in the hand. Once on a tripod, it's a different matter. I've gone back to 15x56s Meostars (from 12x50 ELs) and like them better for what I do... but that's a bit subjective. The trade off between 12s and 15s is that you get a little closer look with 15s, but give up a bit of your field of view. Which model of Vortex 10x42s do you have? If you have something like the Diamondbacks, then I would say you would be better off upgrading them first.

I’ve seen some Meostar HD 10x42 and 12x50 in the classifieds that would fit your budget and are excellent.

Doug at CameralandNY had some great deals on Leica Trinovid demos.

Like Ben RT said a tripod is essential! Wether you go 10s 12s or 15s. I would recommend upgrading the quality of your glass before moving to 15s, you can get some excellent glass in 10x at your price. Diamondbacks will find some deer for you but your missing a lot that’s out there. Good luck on your search
