Need help re-setting zero: Zeiss V4

Possiblly a dumb question but here we go.

Seekins Element Hunter which has a machined 20 MOA rail
Zeiss V4 6-24x50, demo from Redhawk
Nightforce Ultra Lite rings, medium

Put it all together and when I went to boresight I had to max out the elevation travel upward.

I know I can remove turret and barrel, and turn the stem downward. But am I not back in the same boat? If I adjust down 40 MOA and reassemble, will I not need to dial up 40 MOA to get back to my boresight zero?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify, are you saying you can't bring the reticle higher or lower from that point?

To me, it sounds like you are thinking in reverse and hitting the zero stop. If the scope has the zero stop set for a zero MOA rail, putting it on a 20MOA rail will have it pointed down. The up/down nomenclature can be confusing.

Thank you for the help. When I tried to boresight it I had to dial the scope up to max elevation. I cannot bring the reticle higher.

That is still not making sense.

Moving the reticle up the wall would be "reducing" elevation, which would clash with a zero stop.

Going to "max elevation" for shooting further distances would effectively push the reticle down the wall.

Pull the turret and see if that helps. Unless it is completely broken, that scope has plenty of adjustment to meet any zero distance.
