As a Marine Force Recon operator, I can tell you that humping 75# for 20 miles every day for a week will kill most men.
A lot of someone’s would have to be on my butt wanting to skin me alive before I’d think about doing that! Even then, I’d ditch the pack and save the ammo. We’re going to have a fight.
If you truly did that, you are a badass sir.
Yeah, that’s thru hiker mileage with the weight of a military load out. Certainly possible, maybe even sustainable for 2 or 3 consecutive days, but one would need feet as tough as steel to carry that kind of weight for that kind of distance, in addition to the proper conditioning.
The only reason I could think of to haul that kind of weight for consecutive days would be a remote climbing trip. If you are covering 20 miles a day hunting, you are walking past a lot of game and a 75# pack for backpacking, unless you are in a handful of the most remote places on the planet and there for a long time, simply implies that one doesn’t know how to pack for such a trip.
Congrats on your hunt, looking forward to a write up.
Great write up, glad it all worked out! Sounds like you have a good bull and a good area to go next year. Did you have any hunting pressure back in there?
