I'm shooting a Prime Logic at 84# with a 30" draw. Getting an arrow to spine out has been tough. Down to looking at the Black Eagle Rampage and the Gold Tip Kinetic Chaos. The two present very different options on weight and speed. (All the speed, weights and FOC are from various online calculators, so they are just ballparks)

The Rampage would be roughly 710 grains, with 176 gr up front, coming out of my bow around 245-250 FPS and about 8% FOC.

The Kinetic Kaos would be around 620 grains, with 204 gr up front, at roughly 270 FPS and about 12% FOC.

What are your thoughts on the two choices? Which would you prefer? What are the pros and cons of each?

I would shoot the higher speed and higher foc. I'm curious tho how the heavier spine you have less weight up front than the lighter spine. One will either be over spined or underspined I suspect.

Another option is the 200 spine black eagle x-impact. 200 spine @ 11 gpi. I'm not a huge fan of the micro diameter, just seems like it falls in line with others you were looking at. I don't think I'd care to be shooting a 16 gpi shaft unless I plan on hunting buffalo or elephant.

I think both are good arrows, I just don't care for less than 270 fps for western hunting where the shots can be longer distance.

Billy Goat, I kept the point weight lighter on the Rampage because I didn't want to lose anymore speed. It was already getting a lot slower than what I was hoping for. With the Kinetic I was thinking I have a little room to add some weight to have better FOC and keep solid speed. But I very well could be wrong and run out of spine by adding some point weight (Gold Tips chart says I can put 150 up front, so I may be over by 25).

Your arrow spine needs to be in line with your tip weight. Granted you have a lot of leeway with a compound. Your not helping yourself by running a shaft that stuff with that little of point weight. I do generally err on the side of stuff, buy I think you will find you are way too stiff with a 150 until you get more weight on the front. If those are your only options I'd go with the gold tip, if they end up weak you can loose a little point weight.

I am shooting gt kinetic 200 and so far I’m happy. I hit a cinderblock wall and it survived. I had an iron will hit and collar installed. Prime black 3 at 28.5” at 83.4lbs.

I’m shooting your exact setup bow wise. I shoot the gt Kaos 200 spine full length 115grain ethics outsert 200 grain head and 4 aae max stealths 740 something grains total Shooting great from my bow! Also bow is dead nuts 250FPS on my chrono

I would look at a VAP 250. Brent with Valkyrie is able to load crazy amounts of point weight on them compared to other shafts. He stated that the 250 VAP handles the same or better weight than a 200 spine Black Eagle. You could probably run that shaft with moderate weight up front and have all the speed you want. Archers Advantage also supports Brent's numbers so you could play around on there. I was shooting 250 grains up front at 75 lbs 31 inches on a VXR and was still slightly stiff per AA.

I shoot 75lbs at 32 1/2" draw and I just shoot normal arrows without all the weight up front etc. I've tuned that to 200 spine Kinetics with regular HIT's and 125's, 250 spine Spartans with their regular inserts and 125's, and Trophy Ridge Crush 300's with HIT's and 125's. The only reason I'd ever go to something like the Rampage 150 and a whole lot of weight up front was if I was going to Africa to hunt BIG game. So if you're setting this up for that, I'd go with the Rampage 150's and enough weight up front to put me at around 1000gr.

I ran into lots of broadhead alignment issues with stock goldtip inserts in the kaos. It's a great sturdy shaft and there are plenty of other insert systems that would work, check out what easton is doing. I believe their 5mm titanium half outs would fit (not sure how you feel about half outs).

Arrow Dynamics, nitrostinger.com, make a Nitro Stinger 200 spine at 10gpi and a Hammerhead Traditional 175 spine at 15gpi. Tapered shafts, made in the US
