Need Advice: Mystery Ranch Hooded Pack Fly?

I recently purchased a like-new Mystery Ranch Pintler...so recent that I haven't received it yet. My plan is to use it primarily as a daypack for elk hunting (and training hikes!). I see that MR offers a hooded pack fly (and a regular pack fly) and I'm wondering if this piece of gear makes sense. Please let me know if you've used this type of gear, if you'd recommend it for my potential use and if it makes sense to consider further. We have been out in poor weather (snow/wet snow/some rain) in the past but I know packs have a certain amount of water repellent attributes. I understand that if I was doing multi-day hunts that it would definately be a higher priority item. Thanks for any advice.

I have a non hooded fly for my pintler. I hunt early season and live in the desert so it’s not really needed but I’d rather have it than not. Plus it packs down to about the size of a wallet and weighs nothing.

I have a pack fly for my MR Selway and all my past packs, but not an MR pack fly. I think they're essential if there's a high chance of rain and you're going to be way away from the road. The urethane coating on the inside of the fabric on most packs does wear away/get pin holes/cease working well. Left my pack fly at home on a rainy day two years ago, using an older pack, and the contents got really wet. Always glad when I bring it and need it!

I have two sizes of the old Dana Designs’ version of the hooded pack fly. I really like them since they keep rain from running down between my pack and my back.

Thanks for all the opinions and experience that was shared. I went ahead and ordered one on Backcountry.com with a 20% off coupon for $56 delivered. Better to be safe and it may have other potential uses in addition to keeping the pack contents (and my shoulders) dry. Appreciated.
