Exciting time in the Oglala Grasslands of NW Nebraska. Stalked to 61 yards on this guy. Took a shot and missed, he bounded a few yards and stopped at 81. Luckily most of his attention was on a coyote about 100 from us. Drew back and shot again. Little far back, waited about 4.5hrs and went after him. Got to 100 and he stood up.

The ensuing chase was almost 2 miles and 3 stalks. I finally let him bed again and left him until the afternoon where he was resting 15 yards from the last place I saw him. Drove 1,800 miles to solo hunt on the Oglala grasslands. Had him down on day 3.

Congrats! I was out that way for a short three-day trip earlier this week (only had about 1.5 days to actually hunt). Got close on a few stalks, but couldn't seal the deal (I like to think if I had another 1.5 days I could've filled my tag, but that might be wishful thinking). Either way, beautiful country to chase antelope in, and I had a blast! Congrats again.

if you saw a black 4Runner with some coolers behind it, that was me lol

Congratulations on a great buck. I have made 4 trips over the years to that same area of Nebraska and I was finally successful this season.

I saw a few different trucks with WI plates. Were you hunting from a blind, or spot and stalk? Congrats on the success!

Awesome buck. That sounds like a great hunt. I wasn't able to make it out that way this year, how was the hunting pressure?

I hunted from a blind near water. I have tried spot and stalk before and never seem to be able to get inside 80 yards. Sitting in a blind all day in the heat is tough but it almost always ends up offering a shot opportunity. This year I just happened to get lucky that it was a buck.

Awful. It was pretty crowded, worse than any other time I’ve been out there. I have to think it’s due to covid allowing people to be off and it was their rut so more guys wanted to chase them. But I’m not sure.

Congrats that’s a nice one. good to see someone in Ne got it done. That area has lots more terrain suited to spot and stall than further south where we tried this year.t It was flat as a table and dry. We saw goats s but hard to stalk on with no terrain n features to help. Also water holes all dried up. Kinda frustrating but still fun. Q
